Island Burgers & Shakes

The burger I had today was probably the worst I've ever had. Now, I am generally not a fan of writing negative reviews on a restaurant. In this case, however, I had to make an exception. First, the order was very timely. No problems there. Also, I ordered two items from the menu and I have absolutely no complaints on the other item. The burger, however, was so DRY...so DRYY. I literally felt like I was eating pieces of cardboard. The bun was also soggy, so soggy that the bottom bun had split. The bread was obviously not fresh, but to compound the problem with a soggy, wet bun, it seems they went out of their way to make the most inedible burger. Anyway, I took one bite and had to trash the rest. Maybe I caught them at a bad time (right after the holidays) I don't know. I'm really hoping I'm wrong about this place. I'm guessing it's because I ordered to deliver. I can't imagine being at the restaurant in person and being served this. Some places should really focus on quality control. Based on other reviews I'm willing to give this another shot, but for now, I'm extremely disappointed.

i've been feeling rather run down and anemic as of late so i thought, "a burger should remedy this." i quickly scanned all the options on MP and came across the numerous positive reviews and you know what? they're pretty much on point. i had my burger delivered, so i can't speak as to the atmosphere but the phone person was courteous, polite and my order arrived without error. so that's a plus! burger was slightly over done (i had ordered rare) but i figured that's because of transit time. somehow, the meat (at this point, maybe medium rare/medium) was still moist, flavorful and juicy. the blackening spices were perfect. small caesar salad is great, though a bit over dressed. other than that...no real complaints. i'm sad that i will soon no longer be working in the neighborhood. with these kinds of eats (and at a decent price), this is what i enjoy about my business day.

I have not been to a burger place in NYC that offers such an expansive list of burgers. Every time I go I try to get a differnt burger and each one is as good, if not better, than the last. Please go so you can see what I mean! Oh, and the shakes are incredible!

Yes, it has no fries. But the menu explains that the place is too small for a fryer & boy is that true. It's teeny. And drafty when it's cold. It's rough in the winter. The burger was fabulous. The sandwich, ok. I'd stick with the burgers & you won't be disappointed.

I read those "best burger in NYC" articles all the time and and shocked that Island Burger is rarely listed. I keep thinking that I will write in to the magazines and protest, but then I think twice. Yes, they are the best burgers in NYC (and I have eaten at almost all the places those magazines list), and yes, they have the best shakes in NYC (especially the vanilla malt), and yes again, they dont have fries but have the most delicious baked potatoes (why are they so good?! I don't know), BUT they are a small hole-in-the-wall- and if I say it too loud and clear, they might get too busy for me to get a table!

Not only is the quality excellent, the app portions are huge, the delivery quick, but get this: When you call Island Burger, the person who takes your order is polite and English speaking! Now that's rare. They are pleasant and articulate and are quite possibly the lone bastion of decent delivery customer service. My orders are always right, delicious and well presented. Great place all round.

Been going here for years. The burgers are excellent, but I go for the salads - I have had them all, & they have been, w/o exception, always excellent. They do NOT have fried, or coffee, & I have been assured they never will. If that's a problem, best not to return, rather than whine! The apps are quite good, as are the potatoes - esp w. chili et al - a full meal. As for service - if you go at lunch or before the theater, be prepared to wait. And yes, the tables are close together. But - I have paid 3-4x as much for worse food & much worse service. And in slower periods, the atmosphere & service are genial & relaxed. This is a hangout for people who dont really like hangouts. You can take an hour & read a New Yorker, or eat like a demon & split. All in all, a Hell's Kitchen treasure.
