That's right - NO FRIES - deal with it!!!
Been going here for years. The burgers are excellent, but I go for the salads - I have had them all, & they have been, w/o exception, always excellent. They do NOT have fried, or coffee, & I have been assured they never will. If that's a problem, best not to return, rather than whine! The apps are quite good, as are the potatoes - esp w. chili et al - a full meal. As for service - if you go at lunch or before the theater, be prepared to wait. And yes, the tables are close together. But - I have paid 3-4x as much for worse food & much worse service. And in slower periods, the atmosphere & service are genial & relaxed. This is a hangout for people who dont really like hangouts. You can take an hour & read a New Yorker, or eat like a demon & split. All in all, a Hell's Kitchen treasure.

Great Burger, No Fries . . .but get over it!
OK, fine, so no fries. Period. If you can get over that, then you will be free to enjoy some great hamburgers and (in my opinion) even better shakes.

Best Burger In NYC
This is the way my father used to cook our burgers on the grill during our summers growing up. You specify how you want it cooked, and they do it perfectly. I used to eat very little meat, but after discovering this place, I cannot resist it. I have been back time after time. And I do not miss the fries. The burgers are that good.

don't get all the buzz
so i stumbled on this place while walking along ninth and decided to try it with a group of friends. ordered the mona lisa. the burger looked delicious but it was completely tasteless. my friends all agreed. and there are no fries.. what's up with that? the milkshake was not so special either. disappointing beer selection. also the waiter was just plain rude and sarcastic. the only thing i enjoyed was looking at the hostess.

Where're my chips at?
What struck me when reading the menu of this Burger joint was the apparent lack of Ranch flavored chips. Honestly, who has the guts to serve burgers without offering ranch flavored chips? I was appalled, angered, and even saddened by the fact that the people behind Island Burgers and Shakes forgot what is really important when running a burger place: Ranch chips. Who can possibly enjoy one of the greatest burgers served in the city, when one has to endure the dubious taste of vinegar chips?? I call for a more transparent IBS, where the information regarding the raging Ranch chips issue will be clearly stated in the menu….

Fantastic burgers
One of the best burgers I've had in NYC. Very friendly servers and quick service. It would be nice if they had fries. Loved the milkshake.

Very disappointing
The burger was nothing to brag about. I was hitting elbows with the person at the next table. And it was the porrest service I have had in a very long time. Unfriendly waiter who took 15 minutes to come to the table.
