Best sushi downtown
We lived in Japan for a few years and I generally stopped eating much sushi upon returning because I was dissappointed with the quality in the financial district. Ise has saved me. I go there for my weekly sushi fix- the yellowtail is fabulous.

Enjoyable Experience
Good place for lunch but get there early because it gets crowded. After work/dinner is good too. Food is very tasty and service is very good.

Best in Lower manhattan
I've worked in Financial District for 20 yrs now and have seen a lot of places come and go. In an era where sushi places are popping up like Starbucks Ise is far and away the best. Their rolls aren't big and lumpy and are filled with top notch ingredients. The sushi bar staff will make you a variety of rolls and have alot of stuff thats not on the menu, If you know your sushi you have to sit at the sushi bar. Ise is no secret so getting a table at lunch is not easy. I suggest going in the evening when the area clears out and they pay close ttention to you. Tops in the Lower manhattan and amonst the upper tier of NYC sushi.

Very authentic Japanese style food
My wife is Japanese and I've travelled to Japan countless times. Americans who only have limited experience with "New York Style" sushi probably don't understand the food here. I read a lot of the negative reviews, they miss the point. This is not the "huge pieces of fish" and "california/avocado/cream cheese rolls" they are apparently used to. The food in Ise is very close to what you would get in a Tokyo restaurant. More authentic, delicate food, nicer presentation. Extremely fresh and well done sushi, lots of interesting things on the specials menu and in Japanese. It pays to ask. I had monkfish liver and grilled Red Snapper head last night, both were superb. The prices may be a bit high, but not out of line. Lunch is a madhouse. Go late (after 1:30pm) or for dinner, where the atmosphere is completely different. Calm relaxed and friendly. If you're familiar with Japanese-style sushi service, sit at the sushi bar. This is one of the BEST Japanese restaurants in NYC. Certainly the best in the financial district.

Good Food and Atmosphere but Slow service
The food is good but the service when I've both sat down for lunch and ordered for dinner has been very poor. It should not take over an hour to get your food when you go there or when ou order delivery and live less than two streets away.

Quality
Great lunch specials. Good quality food for a reasonable price.
