Ipanema is my favorite restaurant in NYC. My girlfriend is Portuguese and whenever we are in NY we stop here and the host and waitstaff remember us and really make us enjoy our experience. The food has always been excellent and the service is very timely. Definitely a place worth trying out if you enjoy Portuguese food.

As we walked down little Brazil towards Ipanema, we noticed some of the other Brazilian restaurants were pretty crowded where as Ipanema was not. The service was decent although the waiter seemed very displeased when asked for things, like water. Of the several dishes we ordered, half were good, the others were so-so. The flan for dessert was not up to my standards, and I am making a comparison to the many places I have had flan. The caiparhinas were made well. All in all, we would not go back to this place, but would be certainly willing to try another place such as the other Brazilian places on the same street.

I have been here a few times and being a Brazilian I have to say that this place is great! The food left us longing for more and longing to go back to Brazil. (Just thinking about it is making me hungry) Be prepared for slower service if you go for a business lunch...but then again, what restaurant is quick during a busy lunch hour?

We took a party of 7 here on a Sunday night. No wait and seated right away. The staff was attentive and quick. We had a mixture of dishes and most were great! The only thing was on the Churrascaro Mixto (Mixed Grill)- the pork was too done and dry and the chicken was just a bit better. But the ones that ordered it raved about the sausage and the beef. Also tried the marinated pork chops (no complaints), the Feijorda (good) and the Cod (not that person's favorite). I would not leave without an order of the fried bananas. We'd come back again as it was quiet, inexpensive and food good.

This is a simply fantastic place! It's a great place for a buinsess lunch and works wonderful for groups. The food is excellent, service wonderful and I give it two thumbs up. The only catch is the coat check. I gave a large tip for lunch but didn't have any singles on me and the coat check isn't free, it costs $1., just make sure you have singles for the coat check 'cause the coat check girl doesn't....

Six of us went to dinner on an early Friday night. We made a reservation and were seated promptly. The waiter took our order and served us drinks. We waited close to an hour for our appetizers which never came. Our waiter then told us there was a mistake in the kitchen and gave us the choice to have our appetizers with our entree, which we declined. Half of us ordered the Lobster stuffed with crabmeat, which was good but was covered with a thick layer of cheese, not mentioned on the menu description. The desserts were lacking in choice and substance. Overall, the food was decent but I would recommend going elsewhere.
