Best Indian Food on the Upper West Side

This neighborhood is not really known for its Indian fare, but this place is pretty good. Delivery times are sometimes long.

    Best Indian Food in NYC!

When friends claim that they'll eat "anything but Indian food" I take them to Indus Valley. The food is so good that it wins over everyone who eats there. I love the Chicken Tikka Masala. It's by far the best I've ever had. The service is great, the atmosphere is fun and casual and all the food is amazing! All I can say is GO, you will not be disapointed!

    Excellent spot!

I took my girlfriend here tonight for dinner and we were both very pleased with everything. The service was actually too good! our server was extremely attentive. The meals were very tasty as well with unique flavors. We will definitely return soon.

    Bad Service

I ordered from this restaurant for the first time this evening - my intention was that it be a special holiday meal on July 4th. as my boyfriend had to work. I ordered at 7:02 pm and didn't receive the correct food until after 8:30 pm. I was told the order would be ready for pickup in 15 minutes. I arrived at 7:20 and waited for about 10 minutes. I arrived home at about 730 and ate my onion kulcha as an appetizer. At about 7:45 I began eating my supposedly vegetarian (I'm a vegetarian) biryani, only to discover that it was lamb biryani. I phoned at 7:49 to report the mistake and was told "give me 5 minutes". At 8:32, exactly 90 minutes after placing my original order and over 40 minutes from reporting the mistake, I received the correct order. This despite several subsequent calls. The food is OK, the service is abominable. I was never given a straight answer, never received an apology, no offer to comp my order. I was a waitress for over 12 years and can honestly say that every restaurant in which I worked would certainly have offered something - a comp for the order, a free whatever. Really disappointing service!!!!!!!!

    best indian food

Excellent food! The food is pleasantly unique and not the usual same old indian taste that seen in other restaurants. The ginger Kulfi is excellent. The prices are very reasonable, for its location and quality.

    very satisfied

Family, friends, and I eat here often. This is usually our preferred restaurant for informal family or other occasions. We are never disappointed. First-time guests never fail to return. Their standards are high and consistent. Their many customers are evidence that my judgment is shared. .

    Consistently great

I have been going to and ordering from Indus Valley for more than two years and I think the place is really wonderful. They are generous with chutneys and papadams, even with delivery (though they are ordered separately), and their curries are quite wonderful. I love the Malai Kofta for vegetarian, the Lamp chops for meatiness, and the Cochin Shrimp Curry for seafood. I love Indian food and this is, by far, the best I have found on the upper west.
