    Great Food

Some of the best Indian food I had in Manhattan. The service was great, I was severed with a smile. Compared to a lot of other Indian restaurants the vaule was good.

    Great food, especially lunch specials

Great food. One of the best Indian food places around. Their lunch specials offer the best value though. Service is usually slow and somewhat surly, but what is a good Indian Nan without a jolly ole Indian service! I keep going back though.

    Always a pleasure!

I used to live pretty close to Lexington Avenue in the 20s, so I was used to having great Indian food at my disposal. So when I moved, two months ago, to the Upper West Side, I made it my mission to find very good Indian food. "I won't be happy living in the new neighborhood unless I find an Indian place that compares to the ones I'm used to," I told myself. A week or so before I moved into my new place, I "found" Indus Valley and went there for lunch. I loved it immediately. I was greeted warmly, as if I'd been there before. The service was impeccable (they kept my water glass filled ... and they have those great heavy copper cups that keep the water cold). The food came pretty quick, but not so quick that it made me think it was just sitting back there under a heat lamp or something. The waiter brought me so many accompaniments that I wasn't expecting. A very very nice touch. Since then, I've ordered takeout quite a few times, and every time have been more than delighted with what I ordered. I am particularly fond of the malai kofta. It's so good that I actually daydreamed about it one afternoon. Ridiculous, I know, but hey. In fact, it's so good that I was compelled to order it tonight. So I'll stop daydreaming about it now and go pick it up. I can't wait!

Great Food, and there's plenty of space

The food is excellent and the shrimp appetizer is delicious and different. The restaurant is beautiful and unpretentious. There may be four tight tables in the back but otherwise, it is open and spacious, not to mention quiet! I go all the time.

    best indian in nyc

Fantastic! as good as much more upscale places in nyc, but right on the upper west side. We order in several times a week, are very particular about Indian food, and think this place is the best we're had in new york city.

Great Indian for a Reasonable Price

Great Indian food. The only negative was that the space was cramped.

    good stuff except

i always felt that the one of the most important quantifiers for a quality indian restaurant is its bread, and this place might as well serve wonder bread. what a shame, the rest of the quantifiers are definitely a step above most neighborhood indian restaurants - as are the prices. overall, it's worth a try.
