Great Food / Fast & Friendly Service
While there may be more enjoyable dining out experiences in the neighborhood, there is not much better indian delivery then Indian Tanpura. They do the staples well and are consistent in delivering quality, fresh, authentic Indian at an affordable price for many years. Favorite dishes include Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka Masala, Pakoras and any of their freshly baked Nan.

Great Indian on UWS
The food is great and so is the service.

I thought it was okay; my husband hated it
I thought my Begun Bhorta was okay - not as flavorful as I usually like, but edible. But my husband hated his Shrimp Shaag. He thought it was watery and lacked flavor. And unfortunately, this restaurant uses the baby shrimp instead of the prawns or regular-sized shrimp, like most places. It's unfortunate because I really wanted to like this place.

Good food at great value
Had the dal saag lunch special today. Fresh and tasty food for a good deal. Good spicing and consistency. Included a non-greasy vegetable pakora. I'd recommend this place.

Don't judge a book by its cover
My wife and I ate at Indian Tanpura on 8/30/2010 and both agreed that the food and service was great. We eat Indian somewhat often and were quite pleased with out experience. I will go back and I would recommend Indian Tanpura to friends (and strangers on Menupages).

Sweet Spot
Best raita in town - really. They do something scrumptious with the cucumbers and it must take them ages to make it. You have to know your way around the menu to find the dishes you like. I'm vegetarian and the lunch special works for me! My fave Indian on the Upper West Side. It is a humble and well-liked place. Would I go out of my way to eat here? Well, yes.

compelled to tell
I haven't written a food note on MP in a while, but after ordering from here, I was compelled to tell all not to make the same mistake! I haven't tasted Indian food this poor, ever. We ordered the vegetable sampler appetizer (samosas, papadam and pakoras) to start. The papadam were hard (stale?), the pakoras were over fried pieces of dough that chewed like children had been using it for playtime before they cooked it, the samosas were greasy and not even entirely filled, which left them flat. And except for the frozen food aftertaste, the samosa filling was tasteless. We also ordered the saag paneer and alu mottor gobi, "spicy please". The spice was hot- no real flavor, just hot. Perhaps they spiced it this way to hide the fact that there was no real flavor. The spinach paneer was lumpy and watery and the cheese was hard. Same for the alu mottor gobi, just with different vegetables. We are convinced this place is still in business because people forget they've ordered from here and "give it a try".
