A great place to have around
This place is my meal-ready-to-eat solution every time my wife and I have no energy to prepare dinner at home. The service is always friendly, prices are reasonable to low and the food is truly good. They offer a good selection of India dishes for vegetarians and non-vegetarians and I am yet to be disappointed with a dish. And the surprise typically come at the end of the meal, when you realize for a dinner that includes two appetizers, naan and two entrées you end up paying well under $40.

marginal at best
The food is bland and tastes reheated. Although this place is a lot cheaper than other Indian choices on the UWS I am continually disappointed. I have tried this place 3 different times thinking each time I just hit it on a bad night. Not worth it even with cheap prices and snappy service.

Great place
I've gone to this place consistantly over the years, and it's always been delicious. The service is always very quick and courteous, prices are definitely reasonable for the area. The Spinach and Chickpeas are wonderful.

They used to be great.
I think they must have changed chefs. The food used to be excellent. In particular, the Chicken Makhani was just the best around: fragrantly, prefectly seasoned. Now it is bland, and the overwhelming flavor is of SUGAR!!! The samosas have similarly fallen in standard. I ordered several times, to be sure, and it definitely consistently bad now. It is a shame. I won't be ordering from Indian Cafe anymore.

Unpleasant experience
The Indian Cafe offers an average menu at an afforadable price. The lamb curry lunch special was decent enough. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to enjoy my meal for long, as the staff began to mop the floors with strong bleach filled water. I tried, unsucessfully, to fight the nausiating fumes to complete my meal. I notified the staff of my discomfort, and they reacted with an indifferance that should not be tolorated in a New York City eating establishment. There was no attempt by the staff to rectify the situation in any way, so I paid the bill and left. In short, average food for a good price. I adivse future customers to advoid the cleaning hours.

May 27 last day of a week of 1986 prices
Great food and atmosphere... and this week, ending Sunday May 27, the Indian Cafe is celebrating its 21st anniversary by rolling back prices 21 years to 1986!

Indian Food without flavor or forks
We ordered delivery from this place and they not only delivered subpar food, but also didn't bother to give us any utensils or napkins.
