    Great Surprise!!

I was in NY for 2 days, walked up and down the street and saw Il Violino. Went in for a late lunch. Had the Prix Fix meal. The value was excellent, the meal was prepared just right and the portions were enormous. I was very satisfied, and I am very picky about my food. The service was prompt and the price just right, $20.00, which included a glass of wine, appetizer, salad and entree. Bon Appetitto!!

    not a good place

I've walked by this place dozens of times in the last year, and my curiosity finally got the best of me last weekend. What a mistake. The food was overpriced and barely edible. The staff was either MIA or hovering throughout the meal.

    not worth the discount

They're on the Friend of Philharmonic discount card. Pass them by. Terrible food and indifferent management. We complained about the rock-hard chicken in the chicken parm and didn't even get a sorry. This restaurant is a sorry mess.

    Never, ever!

Looked quaint from the outside, but food was not good (I have never had to throw-out chicken parm before!) and terribly overpriced. Get this: when I asked the waiter if they had a children's menu or could do something for my daughter, he leaned over close to me, and said "yes, but don't tell them", meaning the family of 7 who had just sat down behind us. We should have left right then.

    Looks can be deceiving

In strolling around the area looking for a decent restaurant before a movie, we thought il Violino looked like a nice place from the outside. However, our meal was flavorless and considering the less-than-fresh ingredients, over-priced. After thinking about it, my husband and I agree that it was possibly the worst meal we have had in the city in a long time.

    Give it a miss...

Food was mediocre and the place was dingy. Rather go for a slice of pizza up the block

    Nothing to write home about

The food is decent, but not special. What they do, they do well. The service is typical New York surly. Waiters hover and clear your plate the instant you finish. Forget getting your water refilled or the waiter ever actually checking in with you. If you need something, you can just ask - the waiter will be standing five feet away staring at you. Prices are typical of UWS/Lincoln Center area - which is too pricey for uninspired Italian and bad service. The quest for good Italian in NYC continues.
