We had reservations for 6:30pm on a Monday a week before Christmas. Service was attentive and pleasant before and while we were ordering. We received our meal in a timely fashion and while we were eating, they got busy, at which point we were ignored for quite a while, sitting with our dirty dishes. We had to flag down the busboy to clear them. After that we were ignored again for about 10 mins until we finally had to flag someone down to ask for our bill. If we had wanted to have coffee or dessert we would have been out of luck. The Maitre 'D brought us our check and neglected to deduct the restaurant.com coupon we had presented to the waiter upon entering, so he had to recalculate it. Then we went to get our coats and upon presenting my coatcheck ticket, the coat check woman asked me "do you know which coat is yours?" I reached up and retrieved my coat from the rack and my boyfriend grabbed his. Too bad, because we would have likely returned if the evening hadn't ended (the last 30 mins) on such a frustrating note.

I am amazed by this place. The menu is good but the specials - how is it possible to have so many choices and each one better than the previous one? I have been introducing friends but carefully so it doesn't get too discovered!

I generally go to Carbone down the block which I really enjoy, but my bf and I decided to try Il Punto. We've eaten there three times and have always had a great meal and found the wait staff to be very gracious. The negative reviews bewilder me given my experiences. We wanted a prosciutto plate that wasn't on the menu and there wasn't a problem accommodating that request. Had a great lentil soup with bacon, lamb chops cooked to perfection, a delicious spicy bolognese pasta dish, and wonderful shrimp ravioli. Desert was always fresh and delicious. The home made gelato was terrific. We enjoyed pairing off our meals with a rich Montepulciano. So why the scathing reviews? Prices are more on the high end, but thus far I've found the quality of the food to be commensurate with the prices.
