I'm really glad I found this place! The vibe is really nice inside... relaxed and unpretentious. The food is very fresh and cooked to perfection. Although the cooks looked Mexican, the food is undeniably ITALIAN! Like the thin crust pizza... authentic Italian style. I've brought lots of friends and each of them love IL MATTONE... they say the dishes are priced cheap (as do I). I've eaten there at least a dozen x's... I've had just about everything on the menu... my fave so far is the Lobster Ravioli. I also love the Sausage w/ Broccoli Rabe, Cappicola Pizza, and the PERFECT Calamari. They have a DJ during the week (I think Tues.) which was kinda' a surprise, but real cool nontheless. I highly recommend this restaurant. Bon Apetit!

I've been eating at Il Mattone for a few years, and now that I'm in midtown I miss it terribly. Whenever I have a chance, I go back to the neighborhood and visit my friends. Anyone who asks for good venue, great food and reasonable rates imeediately gets sent to my favorite NYC restaturant. Keep it up Il Mattone - you are the BEST! I hope to see ya soon!

I had dinner at Il Mattone on Tuesday night for the first time. Not only was it a relaxing atmosphere but the staff was extremely pleasant and personable and the food was outrageous. I had the lobster ravioli special as well as the chicken milanese and it was fantastic. I will definitely be going back again.

Ordered takeout last night....chicken parm came as veal parm and entree dishes came on sandwiches. Food was fair at best. Pizza was good but not 'NY Style', it is thin crust. Will not order take out again.

The "nasty comments" don't seem that nasty. Didn't he say it "has solid food, is relatively inexpensive, and has quick, reliable delivery"? That doesn't sound "nasty." I think his (her) point is that it does not compare to Acappella, Il Giglio or Scalini Fedelli -- which are all in the same area (but admittedly more expensive). But I guess it is impressive compared to the Olie Garden, if that's "ur" benchmark.

FIRST OF ALL, I HAD TO WRITE IN DEFENSE OF THE RESTAURANT IN REGARD TO THE PERSON WHO WROTE THAT THE STAFF MUST HAVE WRITTEN THE RAVE REVIEWS. I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STAFF OR ANYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RESTAURANT AND VERY SURPRISINGLY HAVE FOUND IT TO BE A SECRET GEM. THE FOOD WAS SUPERB AS WELL AS THE SERVICE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IL MATTONE. I TRIED THIS RESTAURANT SORT OF BY ACCIDENT AND COULD NOT BELIEVE THE WONDERFUL FOOD THAT WAS SERVED TO US.. I AM ITALIAN AND COOK ITALIAN AND LOVE ITALIAN FOOD.. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL.. SO FOR U JEALOUS OR CRAZED PERSON OUT THERE WITH THE NASTY COMMENTS, STICK TO THE OLIVE GARDEN..IT SEEMS JUST UR SPEED

Il Mattone catered our metrofly.com charity event for the Make a Wish Foundation yesterday. The food was phenomenal. The penne was fabulous and just the right mix. Thank you so much for helping make our party a success. Joe@metrofly
