    Small but Tasty

It's not located conveniently, so you better like ice cream and be ready to spend a lot for these tiny but tasteful scoops. Disappointed to see just 12 flavors rather than the 75 they advertise on the website. But the cinnamon was very good - not too sweet or tart and although I'm not a mint fan, that was surprsingly fresh and delicious. The service is not as sweet as the gelato, far from it. The place itself is small just like the portion sizes and truly looks like a laboratory. Thank goodness for the bench outside the store.

    Disappointing

After shlepping out to 95 Orchard St., we were greeted by an ice cold server. In an indignant tone she told me that I could only try 2 flavors. I guess at their extravagant prices they can scarcely afford to let people try miniature spoonfulls of ice cream. Also the prices mentioned on their web site under the "Press" section are not true. Contrary to the last article the price for pints is NOT $4.75, and $4.50 for two or more, but rather $7.25 which is pretty close what it costs at stores. Bottom line is that this was a disappointing experience.

    Worth the trip

I learned about this place from a teacher who lives in manhattan. We were supposed to stop here during a field trip to the tenement museum (right next door), but ran out of time. I also heard about this place on the travel channel where they raved about the best gelato on earth. I tend to agree. The line was out the door. when we finally got up to the counter we could see the flavors. I think there were 16 flavors, maybe 12. They weren't your typical flavors. I remember seeing red bean, amaretto and marscapone. They also had plain vanilla and chocolate chocolate chip. I got a milkshake made from thai chili chocolate. The woman looked at me like i was very brave to be ordering this. It tasted like any ordinary chocolate milkshake until you swallow and taste the spiciness left on your tongue. It was like nothing i've ever tasted before. The spiciness wasn't too intense to make me stop drinking, I just took small sips. Now the downsides. This is the smallest ice cream place I've ever seen. I used to work at an italian ice place, a teeny stand alone building in the middle of a parking lot and that place was bigger than this one. There was a menu behind the door and one hanging over the counter. It was hard to read and didn't list the flavors. This place is pretty expensive compared to any other ice cream place. A small (it was veeerrrry small) cup of gelato was 3.75. The milkshake I bought was about 6 bucks. The straws and napkins weren't very accessible with all those people crammed into one small space. Overall, it was well worth the trip. If you're even a little curious about this place, check it out. You won't regret it.

Go out of your way to get here

Gelato of an intensity that is unparalleled. From the chocolate hazelnut to the mint, each flavor is magnificent. If you have no other reason to visit the Lower East Side, this should be your destination stop. Only problem: they close at 6 pm.

    Go there

I consider myself an ice cream connoisseur of sorts. And this is by far the best Gelato i've had (that I can remember). You must go. My special recommendation is the fresh mint.
