Nothing to brag about
Stood at the counter for quite a few minutes before someone came to take my order. Many flavors listed online but to order a single serving flavors were limited. Not very impressed with the gelato. Don't bother to travel the distance if your not close by.

My god...
I spent a total of three hours going to and from this place by myself to try some of the myriad flavors that so tempted my mind on the website. All I can say was that I was thoroughly satisfied and delighted; I had passionfruit sorbet, hazelnut, and espresso gelatos, and they were worth every penny. Both types of cold desserts are incredibly flavorful and intense, and whilst the sorbet has a cooling, cleansing feel to it, the gelato enrobes both your throat and your precious stomach in a TIDALWAVE of rich, custardy perfection. I wish to somehow sample all of their flavors, even wasabi *that may take many trips*, and I know that every bite (or slurp) will be worth it.

Fabulous!
The flavors are so intense. The fugi apple sorbet tasted like a frozen apple! The blueberry, espresso and cinnamon gelatos were absolutely remarkable!!! Small store-front (what else would you expect in Manhattan), but clean environment. Will definitely go back.

Are these people kidding?
Whoever wrote or writes a negative review for this place is a tad over expectant. First of all the gelato and sorbet are amazing, AMAZING. Second, it's an ice cream shop. Meaning counter service and such. To expect anything more when going there is a little too much. Anyway, each and every single flavor of either the gelato and sorbets are well worth the trip from anywhere. Go! Immediately!

Gelato genius
Yeah, this place doesn't exist to satisfy the upper west side schlepper in need of special treatment. The speciality here is the ice cream, which is inventive, daring, and ultimately, delicious. I'm not surprised it's this expensive; when you're not making cookie cutter crap on a conveyer belt, the overhead gets steep. I just hope they can afford to stick around without compromising. I especially hope that they don't change their style to cater to the whiners of the upper west side.

Not Worth A Special Trip
My boyfriend and I trekked half an hour from Upper Manhattan to get to Il Laboratorio after buying some of their pints at the local gourmet grocery store. Needless to say, this place is ill equipped to receive customers. It is specifically tailored to professional chefs and restaurant clientele and seems to make that apparent, as the server was very impersonal and somewhat rude. We frequently travel to Westfield, NJ to visit our favorite gelato shop. Il Laboratorio's gelato cannot compare, as it is not nearly as creamy and smooth. Basically, it only tastes as good as glorified ice cream. If I'm going to pay $3.75 for a very small cup of gelato, I had better be in Italy. Bottom line: don't bother making a special trip to visit this place. Instead, visit Dean & Deluca, Grace's or other high-end, gourmet grocery stores and buy the stuff by the pint.

mmmMMmmm!
It's expensive. But some of the (always changing) flavors are just incredible. Sample sample first! To date, the kiwi is my favorite. Did I mention this place is expensive?
