My husband and I had been to Il Cortille 30 years ago- we are both Italian and fron New York . Our reservation was for 5:00 on the Sunday of labor day weekend, the place was empty, while all the smaller restaurants that line mulberry st. were busy and bustling. The maitre'd seated us next to the kitchen and immediately we were approached by a man that began telling us that he makes the 'best sangria', we ordered a pitcher of this sangria. We looked over the menu, and the 'waiter' returned with his rendition of red sangria- watered down red wine with a rediculous amount of ice and lousy fruit- $45.00 for the pitcher. This waiter was more of a scam artist than a waiter- we felt that he wanted to get as much money out of us as possible. We foolishly decided to order the special- a 3 lb. lobster for each of us with linguine- tomato and mozzarella as an appetizer to share. The tomato was the most under ripe tomato I've ever seen, except on a vine and not what should be served with fresh mozzarella. Then came our dinners... first, we didn't get a 3 lb. lobster EACH- we had 1/2 lobster each if that- with some of the most unappetizing sauce I've ever tasted thrown on top. This sauce was bitter, had limp pieces of peppers floating in it, every spice imaginable and was extremely salty and inedible. The pathetic pasta on the side was overcooked and also coated in this concoction. We pushed our dishes away and tried to get our waiters attention, he never came over to our table to ask how everything was, nor did the matre' d. We tried to get to get someone's attention, after 30 minutes we got up and walked to the front. The matre'd had our check and only after our bill was paid in full did he ask us 'how was everything?' We told him it was disappointing- his reply? He blamed us- said we should've told him! Really? We've dined in the best restaurants and not so great places and everything in between- no matter where, the server and maitre'd always ask 'how is everything?'

Went there on a date. We had a reservation but still had to wait; they said they wanted to give us a really nice table...which apparently meant one in the middle of a room full of large parties and up against the service station. The menu was like a fold-out paper treasure map and we kept laughing at how ridiculous it was. That being said, the staff was outstanding. The food was mediocre and overpriced and my risotto was bland and tasted like rice a roni. My date got one of the specials which was apparently delicious. I'd go back to try something else just because we were treated so well that it was really a pleasure, despite how loud it was in there.

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere, especially the Garden Area. Lovely overhead view. Visited today and would definitely want to dine there again soon.

We came here for my daughter's birthday and the service literally ruined the night. The waiter did not take our order for 1/2 hour and then only did once we complained. Our childrens food was brought and about 15 mintues after they finished, the waiter brought my husband's soup and entree at once, giving me one. When we explained they were both for my husband, he shurgged his shoulder leaving both on the table. The waiters and staff were literally running around the restuaruant, right by our table, and yelling at each other This is not an inexpensive restuaruant. Moderately decent service should be expected.

I've eaten at many of the restaurants in Little Italy and by far Il Cortile is the best. I have probably eaten there three dozen times and it has been exceptional. Counting London and Rome, easy local alternative. Treat them well they'll treat you better. Grande, Bravo!! Ciao.

One of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. Dinner took FOREVER to arrive, with no apologies from the waiter who never checked with us to see if we needed anything. He never brought the second glasses of wine we ordered. Fellow diners at nearby tables were still waiting for food when we left ... many rolling their eyes at the horrible experience we had just shared.
