Il Corallo Trattoria

I have been to this place at least a dozen times and I like the food here. I would probably never go back here because of the service, courtesy the arrogant hostess/owner. She refused to move us to another table or for that matter another chair. It was just plain ridiculous and she did it with a shrug. I and my friend decided to pay the bill and walk out in the middle of our dinner. How rude could a restaurant possible get?

Love the food here. Amazing value. However the hostess is rude to everyone and especially to the servers.

Great place for a date. Very small and cozy. Hostess has always been nice to me - don't know what some of these other reviewers are talking about. Huge selection of pasta and generous salad portions. The Mushroom ravioli with walnut sauce is to die for. I always look forward to this place.

I have been going to this restaurant for longer than I can remember - let's say 10 or 12 years. (Long before I moved to the city.) For the past 8 years I have gone about 4 - 6 times per year. In all of that time, I have never once been disappointed with the food -- It is ALWAYS amazing. Although, I admit, I am not a big fan of their bread, its hard and miserly and it's a struggle to eat. With that said, the hostess (whom I suspect must also be the owner) has never been warm or kind or welcoming. Basically, exactly what everyone else said. We have been made to wait, forced to sit at tables that were too cramped or uncomfortable, one time, when my credit card would not scan, rather than type the number in, she made me go to an ATM and get cash while my date had to wait. Even on the occasions where I have offered praise, she has been gruff and dismissive. So, I ask myself... why go? And the answer is, because the food and the value are great. The hostess, like the bread, is hard and has sharp edges, so, I avoid them both. If you want good pasta, this is your place. If you want a friend, avoid at all costs. By the way, the salad with the pear and the fresh and smoked mozzarella are sublime.

I came with a friend who highly recommended this restaurant. The service was great. I read some of the other reviews about bad service, but we did not have that experience at all. The food was delicious, and the price even better. This is one of the few restaurants I want to go to more than once in NYC.

Tried to go here on Saturday night but the hostess was sooo rude I was completely put off, no matter how many good things we'd heard. She wouldn't seat us until everyone had arrived and wanted to stand in the 'porch' in the freezing cold to wait even though there was plenty of space inside. When I tried to ask a couple of questions the hostess just cut me off mid-sentence more than once. She clearly did not care about serving us or whether we enjoyed a meal there or not. I will now never eat here and neither will any of my friends as she put us off so much. I have not been spoken to this condescendingly since I was in school. Go if you like service with a scowl

I wandered into this restaurant one cold winter night after a marathon shopping session! I do not recall getting the bad service people complain about here, perhaps the grumpy waitress years ago, more dour than incompetent, however. Excellent fresh pasta in a seemingly infinite number of combinations, something for everyone, unless you are my cousin Daniel! Great soup of the day for the winter chill. Try the whole wheat pasta special, highly recommended. Finish the meal with a double espresso (the real thing) and the tiramisu for two, or to ease the summer heat, the excellent tartufo.
