The best cookies in town
Il Cantuccio is run by a team that came over from Florence and everything here transports you directly to Italy. The cantuccios (biscuits) are totally fresh and still soft and absolutely delicious. True, it's not cheap but worth it! A reviewer noted that one of the cookies had a piece of paper stuck to it so let me just explain that this is an edible thin wafer at the bottom of the cookie, which is how it is done! The sandwiches are also noteworthy, especially with Mortadella.

Delicioso
Just returned from a nyc week-end, while in the village, came upon Il Cantuccio. The cookies are excellent, the staff was friendly, great atmosphere and delicious sandwiches/ pizza. Being Italian made it all the more worth while. Yes, somewhat pricey for the cookies, but worth every bite.

Great place in Village
we are italians and we went there our last vacation (june 2010). We loved to find a piece of tuscan in the wonderful place of greenwich village! The schiacciata was sublime, with all that italian food (prosciutto, mortadella).. The cookies are better than in the florence bakery! I think that maybe they aren't really cheap, but they make them every day over there. By the way, I want to say to Brutal that the 'paper' stuck on the bottom of the cookies is called 'ostia', and you eat it with the cookie! Lunga vita all'italia e agli italiani!

Brutal
$7 cookies? The size of a golf ball? Really? Sadly enough I was foolish enough to take part. They were good, however I was bamboozled into buying them. Purchased something else entirely and without requesting them the server brought me over to the cookie bar, took out a bag and asked which ones I would like. No prices posted anywhere but how bad could it be? I went along and $21 later I had four tiny cookies to eat. Yummy, but not worth $7 for the whole lot of them. Oh by the way after I was too far to return them I discovered 2 of the 4 had waxed paper stuck to the bottom that would not come off. I am far from cheap - just not stupid. Save your hard earned $ for one of the other many wonderful meals or treats you could get in the village.
