With these kinds of website, everyone is easily a critic. After reading many of the disparaging reviews, I was reluctant to go to Il Cantinori, but I had a gift certificate, so it wouldn't cost me anything. I was happily surprised with the impeccable service, the best gnocchi I've ever had (it was light, not heavy like most places), and the tiramisu was perfecto. The service was wonderful and everyone was very attentive. We sat in the back of the restaurant. The skylight offered a romantic ambience. I guess other reviewers went there on an off night because I can't say enough good things about this place. In addition, I happened to mention that it was my boyfriend's birthday when we arrived. When dessert came, there was a candle on the cake, and the host brought us a round of prosecco on the house. It was very much appreciated. Even if I didn't have a gift certificate, I felt the prices, for the quality and authenticity of the food, was justified.

My husband and I frequent Il Cantinori at least once a week, sometimes twice. Never have we experienced warmer more attentive service any where! It is truly home away from home.

I used to eat here when it was Pino. Had dinner here last night after listening to many neighborhood recommendations. Very disappointed. Sat at the bar and was very disappointed. The bartender was very unprofessional. He was always banging bottles in the garbage and dragging garbage pails to give the kitchen guys. When you pay $16.00 for a white asparagus appetizer, that was not special - i think there is a problem.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner there. The calamari was perfectly cooked and the buttera simple, but full of taste. Ambiance is definitely romantic; will go again, although slightly overpriced.

Gave Il Cantinori a second shot last week. My mistake. The food is completely mediocre and remarkably overpriced. On the flip side, the place is nicely lit and fairly intimate.

i went there with my family on a saturday night with a reservation, it took about 25 minutes to get a table, was completley ignored , drinks came late , food came late, service was subpar , i complained , and the owner had the nerve to tell me in front of my family that if i wasnt happy , to never come back !i dont recommend this place to anyone ever! my family lives in the nieghboorhood and theres only 2 italian restaurants in the area and i would gladly spend my money elsewhere! goodbye

My husband & I went to Il Cantinori in Dec, 2008. We are from out of town and I had booked it, and then unfortunately read all the reviews. I didn't want to cancel my reservations even though most of the reviews I read were negative. I am glad I kept my reservation. The restaurant was good. The food was very tasty and I expected our portions to be a lot smaller, and the prices to be a lot higher. We spent about 100 dollars, with wine and dessert which I thought was good. The servers were friendly, not in your face, and laid back. We got our food fairly quickly (but not too quickly) & the atmosphere was pleasant. We both left feeling very satisfied, and full. If my husband and I come back to NY (which I am sure we will), we intend to go back to this restaurant. I am glad I went, even though many of the reviews were terrible. I recommend this restaurant. We went at 8:00 on a Friday which seemed to be good timing. Give this restaurant a try and I don't think you'll be sorry!
