    Favorite spot in this neighborhood

Although the portion sizes have gotten smaller than they were a few years ago, I always have an excellent meal here. The owner and staff are always super welcoming and friendly and it's one of the few places me and my boyfriend go the whole nine yards; wine, app. entree and dessert... I take clients and family here all the time. I'm hungry just thinking about it! LOL

    Average at best

I've had il bagatto many times and each time I always scratch my head in wonderment. It is average at best. Firstly, that menu has not changed in 10+ years. I've had just about everything on it. Secondly, there is zero atmosphere. My friend and I dropped by on a weekend and got seated in one of their "sidewalk" tables. We got smokers, crazy locals, rowdy teens, and loud drunks. Third, it's pricey for what one gets. I will never go back.

    Earplugs Please

Don't mean to sound like old fogie-- but if you sit in the basement and the people next to you our loud talkers-- then join their discussion-- you are going to hear it anyway. The ambience is fun-- the service is pleasant, the food is bland. For the prices, you may want to look around- there is far more memorable Italian in the hood. Sorry to see this one go downhill.

    Wonderful experience!

My boyfriend and I went here upon recommendation from his friend and I was more than happy with everything! I feel like some people that write reviews on here are never satisfied with anything. It's NYC people! Wait times and dining can take longer than expected, relax and take a breather...not that serious! Going back to the meal, we started with the grilled calamari, potato mushroom salad, and penne arribiatta. All was delicious! The pasta sauce had chunks of roasted garlic which I love, the calamari was perfectly grilled, and the mushroom salad was really tasty. For the main course I had the fish in a walnut pesto that was just out of this world good. I can't tell you about my boyfriend's porkchop because I don't eat pork but he loved it. Dessert was panacotta...YUM. Definitely going back.

    Extremely disappointed

I was there on a Saturday night and had the worst dining experience. There was no service, they are understaffed, and their "small kitchen" produced tasteless and overpriced dishes at an extremely slow place. I will never go back.

I was back in Italy for a night

My husband and I went to Il Bagatto on a Saturday night last year after reading about the restaurant and it's owner. I went again with my friends on a Thursday a week ago (don't know why I waited so long). The service was excellent and our waitress gracious. We stayed a couple of hours and no one made us feel rushed to give up the table. Our meals included fish, pasta and chicken and everything was delicious. My friends remarked on the freshness of the vegetables. I've been to Italy several times and Il Bagatto reminds me of some of the local restaurants we frequented. It's obvious the owner takes great care to buy the best ingredients. Attitude? No way. The staff couldn't be nicer. I'm going back next week with some other friends.

    All attitude, no sense

Wasn't too surprised at the requirement that all in our party of 8 arrive before being seated and that everyone arrive within 10 min of the reservation time or the table will be given away. But after being sent (ordered, not asked) to the downstairs bar to wait, and then standing down there for 45 min it began to rankle. OK, we know all know that Fri nights can be crazy and these things happen. But the third time the host/manager came down to ask us to order some drinks from the bar without apologizing for the wait, he felt the need to turn to one of our party to tell her she needed to "adjust her attitude" for the offense of asking how much longer the wait would be. Huh? Things spiraled downwards from there, and we eventually walked out to the refrain of him insisting "I'm all about customer service," ruining our friend's bday outing before it could even get started. Stay away.
