Amazing tonkatsu and other delights
I've been here three times, and each time the food has been perfect. They use Japanese Black Pork for their tonkatsu, and it is the best tonkatsu I've had thus far (and I've eaten a LOT of tonkatsu around the east village). I also indugled in their Wagyu Beef steak with miso and wasabi sauce. I was also wonderful, very tender and the fat was almost butter-like. To my delight, it wasn't overcooked at all. The service is very friendly and all food is cooked to order. Ichibantei has become my favorite casual places for fast japanese food.

Great addition to the neighborhood
WOW! Can't say enough good things about this place! The food is awesome. I'm surprised they aren't packed all the time! Food: Ok, while I haven't had any of the Steak yet, I've tried nearly all the different kinds of Fried Chicken and I have to say.. you haven't had fried chicken until you've had it from this spot!! Freakin mouth watering, absolutely tender pieces of chicken with the perfect amount of crust and crispiness! So tasty! Their claim of being "japanese soul food" is on point. This stuff rocks! Atmosphere: it's pretty laid back here. It's kinda "backyard BBQ" style with picnic tables and street/window stool seating, which is cool. Perfect for you and your peoples to come, chill and eat! They don't have beer yet so it's BYOB for now (8/11/2011), although I spoke to one of the guys there and he said they'd have their Beer license very soon. I'm sure this place will take off when that happens, because the food is perfect with some biru! Hands down one of the best places in the neighborhood! If you love fried chicken, go here!

over all 3.5 to 4.0
I am not sure their Hamburger Steak BBQ source - a bit salty - need some sweetness to it. And the rice is too soft - I like a little more firm rice.

Delicious Steak
Was hesitant to order from here as it seemed a little steep for a single order of steak - definitely worth shelling out for...the meat was cooked to perfection, like mouth-watering perfection, and the wasabi sauce is a must! The octopus balls were generously portioned, arrived steaming hot and covered with bonito flakes! Also tried the chicken & BBQ sauce beef steak (easier on the wallet and just as tasty). They are super friendly and fast too. Love this place!!!
