This is probably the best Chinese restaurant on the upper east side! I used to live right around the corner, 74th and York, and got takeout at least 3-4 times per week. They have the best kung pao chicken and general tsao's chicken. Vegetable rolls and hot and sour soup are terrific too! Also used to eat their curry chicken with rice. Singapore noodles were good too. I guess the chef is pretty versatile. :) A previous commenter said that the prices were high. The prices I saw seem on par with the rest of the area to me, given that all the businesses in the area are struggling to make ends meet with the economy and people not eating out as much. I went back for the first time today (since I moved away), the food still tastes great and it's still the same as I remember, close knit restaurant that's good for families I'll always keep coming back to this place whenever I am in NYC because it's not just the food, but also the people that run it and my memories I have of the place

My lunch special cost a little over $8. That's a lot for a lunch special. At what point can you no longer include the word, "special" in the name -- it's not a deal at over $8. The next problem was that I received very little chicken but plenty of vegetables. So, I basically paid $8 for a lot of rice, a lot of vegetables, a little bit of diced chicken, an eggroll, and wonton soup with 3 little wontons in it.

I was having a chinese craving and was passing by this place on my way home from a meeting. I was starving and craving chinese. This was definitely not the best chinese food ever, but it was still quite delicious. the lunch specials are an amazing deal and the portion size is huge. I've recently ordered delivery from here a few times and have always been satisified. Definitely reccomended!

I've been coming here for for over ten years and even with new restaurants, Hunan is the best. They still give you the best options when it comes to lunch specials, you get a main dish the choice of a soup, and egg role or spring role, and rice along with a soda. The portions are always generously perfect and their always fast when it comes to take out. If your a regular costumer and you actually go to the restaurant, the atmosphere is nice and the waitstaff is also nice and knows about the orders and if something is good or you should steer clear of a dish. Everyone including the owner Rachel who's been their since the start always adores meeting new people and respects and is very generous to returning customers. In short Hunan, is still and will always probably one of the best Chinese food restaurant on the UES.

We've never been for dinner-always take out but hands down the best. Crab Rangoon nice, Chicken with mixed veggies is really flavorful. Also the General Tsos Chicken is solid. Nice on the phone.

I eat here all the time and get delivery too. The food seems to arrive before I even get off the phone! If there's ever a problem they're super quick to fix it. I love the food although their veg fried rice is kinda boring.

Ordered the lunch special, sesame chicken which includes hot and soup soup, egg roll and veg fried rice. I felt each item was made with cheap ingredients and lacking any attempt at a competitive tasty UES Chinese joint.. The flavors were vacant, for example the egg roll was soggy and only had tasteless cabbage inside, no meat. The hot and soup had a strange unpleasant odor and the ingredients were again flavorless. Moving on to the main dish, the sesame chicken was crispy and tender but the sauce was not thick or rich enough, way too watery for my liking. But I have to say the biggest problem in my view was the fried rice because it was mushy and only included carrots with no egg, onion or other expected ingredients. I can think of multiple places in the area that are significantly better. if you want cheap, Six Happiness is generally consistently solid tasty fair. If you want something a step above I would suggest somewhere else
