18 Delicious Years at the Hunan
Came most Fridays from across the river in Jersey from 1987 to 1995. When we moved south to the Jersey shore, I kept coming -- 90 miles each way. It took at least four hours of driving, so we switched from Friday night to Thursday night to avoid the shore traffic. Now it's roughly 1.75 hrs. coming in at rush hour and and 1.25 hours leaving the Hunan at 9:00 pm or so. Yes, there are friends involved. We've been meeting at the Hunan that long and for good reason. You can't get close to this quality food for the price and a whole lot more . The sauces are spectacular. You don't have to go any further than the subtle dumpling sauce and outrageously delicious plum sauce they bring with appetizers. It only gets better from there -- from the beautifully balanced sauces on meat and poultry dishes to the simple, elegant white sauce and garlic sauce (they call it brown sauce) served on vegtables. Those vegtables, by the way, are fresh and perfectly steamed, never mushy. Is the Hunan perfect? Hey, who is? Sometimes the place gets a little noisy, but it's no where near as noisy as, say, the Oyster Bar at Grand Central, and that's small price to pay for among the best food of any kind at anything like the price from Boston to Philly. I'll keep coming until someone makes me stop.

Food amazing!
I still have not eaten there but I order in all the time. They have amazing deals if you spend over $10, $20...etc. You should definitely try this place out, best in the area.

Solid eats
I live just blocks away from this restaurant and I enjoy it regularly. Once I was sick for three days and I had them send me enough soup (hot & sour, and the one that involves spinach) to get me through. I also really like the Chinatown Tofu and the healthy steamed dishes. Who knew bok choy could taste so good? I would not, however, recommend the egg rolls.

Worth the 80 block wait
Moved from Columbia area to Washington/Hudson Heights. Ordering usually takes an hour (not so great), they charge $1 (fair enough), and the delivery guys always act disappointed in the tip even though I'm generous (very). Nevertheless, they get my business, hands down.

Mouthwatering
I travel all of the way from the Bronx just for the sushi rolls. I ate there Sunday (1/4/04) and had the "Happy Family" -shrimp, lobster, scallops, flank steak with vegetables in a brown sauce-DELICIOUS!!!! I am on my way right now for some sushi rolls-California, Alaskan and Spicy Tekka-YUM YUM!! The sushi specials can't be beat and the food is fresh. The drinks from the bar are also very good.
