hmmmm
I've been ordering from Hunan Balcony for years now and have always had good experiences until very recently with one of the delivery guys. He had a serious problem with personal space (which was quite uncomfortable esp. since I live alone) and also had a problem with the $3 tip I gave him for about 12 bucks worth of food. Call me crazy, but I think that's a pretty decent tip. Usually I get this very sweet man who delivers the food but sadly this other man came to the door. I still think the food is fairly decent but this newer delivery person has really put me off. I doubt that I'll be ordering from them again.

Best Veggie Chinese Joint
This place makes great moo shu vegetables and has, by far, the best vegetarian selection of any Chinese joint in the hood - and they give you free stuff with every order. Tasty!

Not recommended
I always walk by and see the people on the "balcony" through the window and wanted to try this place. I ordered a tofu and vegetable dish and it tasted like frozen vegetables with tofu mush in a gross white sauce. Disappointing.

Good food, not nice delivery guys
I really like the food here. The hot and sour soup is particularly good. But every time I get a delivery, the delivery guy complains about the tip. I'm a generous tipper, but from these guys I always get a pathetic sigh, or an incredulous look, or some muttered remark. Think $4 is a good tip on a $14 delivery? They don't. They think it's the worst thing that ever happened to them. I won't be ordering from here again, because I don't want to have to deal with the unpleasantness of the delivery people. I'm not the only person with this complaint; I wish the restaurant would get a clue.

Not recommended
The atmosphere was fine but the food was tasteless. The waiters were inattentive and surly. I had to send back a plate of vegetable fried rice because the veggies were still FROZEN! The salad was nothing but clumps of iceberg lettuce and some dried out looking broccoli and carrots. Won't be going there again......

Bummer
Average food, even for the upper west side.What stands out though is the rude service. Once I asked for extra ginger, with my take out order. She snaps back, 'one dollar'. I have never seen an Asian restaurant that charges for ginger. The whole vibe of this place is off putting. Never will I return.

2 Thumbs Down!
The evening started with 5 of us being seated at a 6 person round table.. then we were moved very rudely since only two ppl were eating... Moved in a way that the two ppl eating can stay but you other 3 are going to have to wait outside...:/ Food arrived quite promptly..along with the bubble tea and overly salty edamame. To make matters worse the sake we ordered was never delivered (yet it was miraculously charged on our bill -_-),nor was any complimentary water offered. They didn't even wait for us to completely finish eating yet grabbing plates off of the table left right and center..Smh. Overall, it sucked. Terrible experience I will not go back or recommend anyone else to go unless you enjoy terrible customer service and nearly dying from thirst!
