The Hummus & Pita Co.

This spot is hands-down off the charts. We found Hummus and Pita Co. about a month ago, after a deliberate search for good mediterranean food in Chelsea. We have ordered from here several times since and also visited the location. This is apparently the second location that they have opened. First good sign, the restaurant is staffed by young people who seem to enjoy what they're doing - and the restaurant itself is surprisingly warm and inviting (for a fast food type place). The food itself even more surprisingly good - hence, the third or fourth time in a month that we've eaten from here. I write this review, after having read several others - one from a woman who says she travels in from Brooklyn specially to eat here. I get it - if you're looking for this type of food, you will not be disappointed. By the way, the few bad reviews I read - about supposedly "bland" food, "not fresh," "not tasty" - I can assure that they're not worth believing for a second. It just shows that one has to critically read all the reviews being posted.

I come to this place at least twice a week, not to mention I come from Jersey. I get the same thing all the time because of my healthy eating lifestyle. I order the falafel, hummus, babagonoush, tabbouleh, and cabbage, carrots and beets. I don't eat bread so a pass the pita to my friend. I always have leftovers to eat later in the day. When my friends and family visit from out of town, this is where I take them and they fall in LOVE. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is always clean. I can't wait to go again on Friday. They should know me by name :-)

Amazing amount of food you get for what you pay. Service is quick. I'll go again.

Problem with the delivery. But afterwards, I received a call from the manager who was emphatically apologetic, and really went the extra mile to make things right. I've had delivery issues with other places in the past, but never such a great recovery by a restaurant.

I kept passing this place thinking, "Ah, just another pita/hummus type thing ... whatever." Finally gave it a try the other day and it is REALLY good. Fresh pita (whole wheat or reg). Amazingly good hummus and falafel. You can get a bowl with brown rice. There are great toppings and sides in general - healthy and tasty: shredded cabbage, grape leaves, eggplant, etc. Serious hot sauce (red or green). And I seriously don't know why other people are saying overpriced!? It's SO not. I am full every time for like $7-9. Now I'm thinking I shouldn't be writing this - it's gonna make the line longer...

The food is out of this world. The chicken very tender and flavorful, and the veggies fresh and delicious. The pricing is more like a sit down restaurant than a fast food place - be aware of that, set a budget in your mind and you won't be disappointed. They have a weird structure though, with add-ons that are not included but basic components of a meal - sort of like if you go to McDs and they start charging you for a bun and the lettuce while having a headline price for a burger. The staff is very friendly. But, they do overcharge sometimes - jury's still out as to whether it's deliberate thinking people won't notice or are too nice to push back - or whether they really are clueless.

Amazing hummus, I am so picky about my hummus but this place has some amazing stuff. Definitely not overpriced at all. I got my whole order (falafel on a pita) for about $5 and it was very filling. This place is definitely reasonable. The staff is super friendly and I can't stop thinking about the food! I hope they open up more throughout the city soon!
