Hudson River Cafe

My boyfriend and I visited Hudson River Cafe last night since the wait was so long at dinosaur BBQ. While the service was pleasant and the manager/owner stopped by, it took awhile for his drink to arrive. The atmosphere was more trendy than upscale but I think its nice to have some places with a fancier atmosphere in the area. The food was decent, the chowder was good however the lobster quesadilla was just average. The prices were pretty high so while I think it may be worth a visit, I will a wait a bit for my next visit.

The food and service here is excellent. I had the coconut shrimp, excellent. The branzini was the best I ever had. I did not like the goat cheese salad, too tart, it needed fresh fruit or something else added to add flavor. The strawberry mojito was adequate. Then there was the banana bread pudding with ice cream. I absolutely went to heaven on that, Best in town. I was also impressed with the waiter.

I went here on a fly with my husband last Friday. We were both very impressed. We loved the food and the service. Max's Paella was delicious and the grilled shrimp with cuscus was equally delicious. I had the butternut squash soup for starters and my husband had the lobster bisque. We ended our meal with pecan pie (not the traditional pie) it was not too sweet. Our waiter was great as well. His service was attentive but not over the top. He was great even when he had a large party to attend and we where still having our meal. Our only complaint that the music was a bit too loud at times carry an conversation or to hear the waiter. My favorite part was that the food was good and I left with a satisfied stomach (didn't even finish my dessert). Well worth the money.

I've been to Hudson River Cafe on numerous, occasions and I have not been disappointed once. If you can get there in good weather, there are few places in the city that can compare. The food is very tasty and the drinks (I prefer Cucumbers on the Hudson) are fabulous. With all of the outdoor seating, the ambience is fantastic. Additionally the restaurant is very spacious, which allows the live music to be well received, but not overwhelming. Overall, I have had several very nice dining experiences here, and I would certainly reccomend this place to any and everyone.

I have been to Hud. River Cafe 2 times now and really like it. I went once for dinner when the live band was playing and had a great meal. The second time was for drinks and appetizers on a saturday night. The crowd is great and really diverse. The bartender was really nice and very attentive. The upstairs area is really nice and loungy with couches. Overall, I think they did a great job with the decor. I don't understand the bad reviews!

This place is so popular with critics, but I think the last two reviewers got it right. This doesn't feel like a true fine dining establishment, it feels like a trendy watering hole for people who don't know what they're eating because they're already drunk. Our waiter was more excited about the cocktail menu than about the food menu! I'd much rather go to Melba's!

I was very disappointed when I ate here. The location is not pleasant at all, and to see the River, you need to look under the highway. I guess it would be okay for drinks and appetizers. If people like this place, I think it's only because there are so few upscale restaurants in the area.
