And the Award for Most Disappointing Service Goes to The Hudson River Cafe
We went to the HRC at exactly 8:33 pm. It wasnt crowed but that did not prevent us from getting lousy service..The waiter never introduced himself. He hurriedly took our order. When we inquired about whether one of the entrees would come with veggies, we were told no. Therefore, we ordered a side of veggies for $5. The entree included a huge portion of spinach. {Duh} The waiter never once asked if we needed anything or if the food was satisfactory. Now let's discuss the busboys or rather the circling vultures over prey, which in this case was your barely finished plate. They stand right by your table watching you until they determine you are done. They snatch plates without asking if you are finished. My mother even attempted to move her dessert plate from within reach and they reached over her to take her plate. Within 45 minutes we had drinks, appetizers, entrees, coffee, and dessert. We spoke to the manager about the lousy service and he seemed very apethetic {i.e. he couldn't care less}. Please be warned, if you enjoy leisure conversation over dinner and the ability to put your fork down between mouthfuls, this is not the place for you. P.S. the drinks are not worth the money. They dont taste as exotic as they sound.

Brunch
I went to brunch for the first time and I have to say that the experience was great. I live close by but i have noticed that people take for granted the restaurants that are in their own neighborhood. I had a wonderful and relaxing afternoon. The red sangria and the food were great. I cant wait to go back.

Great food, great spot
Definitely exceeded my expectations...delicious food, tons of it, great choices on the menu, and the atmosphere is fun ...gets louder and crazier as the night gets later. Service is slow...but definitely recommend for a fun date or group dinner.

Great food, fun night out
We just tried Hudson River Cafe for the first time. Food was terrific, drinks were good, and the service was solid (the server went out of his way to help us with a special request). The manager came by and was also very friendly and welcoming. It was a fun, upbeat atmosphere on a Saturday night--expect it to be on the loud side. We will definitely go back.

Great all-around place
Hudson River Café is the place that Harlem was missing. This is a restaurant where you can have a good experience and appreciate new creative combinations in their dishes. Shrimps and grits? Amazing! Lobster stack -delicious. This is my favorite spot. The staff is friendly and attentive. My kids love the macaroni and cheese and kobe sliders. This is a fantastic place to take your family. Plus as an added bonus there is outdoor dining.

Food was great--Slow service
Went there to celebrate some family member birthdays for dinner--where we sat in the outdoor lounge area. Arrived by about 6pm, not so crowded tables and bar, and it was hot outside. By 6:30pm we had to flag someone down in order to have water served. My fiancé and I didn’t wait, nor try to flag down the non-attendant waitress, so we bought drinks from the bar. Twice. First drink I had to return—the sangria apples still had the supermarket sticker on it. WTH? Since we were a large party of 20 people we had to wait for some of the tables to empty downstairs to accommodate our party. There were only two servers for the entire downstairs—indoors and outdoors, so service was EXTREMELY slow. Finally seated after 8:30pm, several of us tried flagging down the waitress in order for her to take food orders. Some food had already arrived, but she still hadn’t taken everyone’s order. My fiancé and I had questions about the entrees on the menu and when he opened her mouth to ask the second question she had already walked off (this happened a number of times before we even ordered). A special birthday cake was brought in and we were given about 7 plates and forks by the hostess (who looked like she’d rather be someplace else). Can she count? There were about 20 of us. After asking for more plates and forks/spoons for the cake, we were given the bill. The music was pretty good the whole night—got to the R&B/Rap, and then immediately followed with soft rock. Really? And yes, parties of 6 or more are charged 20% gratuity, and with overpriced food and horrible service I won’t be returning. The food was delicious, but everything else was unpleasant. The waitress never stopped by after the food was served to check if everything was okay—customary in restaurants, even diners, so why the 20% gratuity. The wait staff doesn’t even have to try to make an effort with that kind of gratuity charged, and this is why they’ve lost our business—all 20 of us. Perhaps if they train their wait staff to have better attitudes and to smile a little, it might make it worth it for the paying customer.
