Food is good, basic, and unpretentious. I really love the decor and atmosphere...there's always a great jazz trio playing and jazzing up the bar scene! I think it's great for a first date...not too expensive, but has a sophisticated feel....plus everything is good...from the french dip sandwich to the hamburger to the thai tuna salad.

Loved the atmosphere - underground, cozy, low lighting, feels like a conspiracy. Best waitstaff, great food, cool.

The Ribs are so tender they fall off of the bone, and you must have the cole slaw! My boyfriend had the steak and that was tasty too! Nice atmosphere with the live music. It's a little dark so bring your flash light...lol.

Having visited NYC a couple of times over the last year or so from London, this is one of the best restaurants we've found in the city- food, service and value. Although we had to wait over an hour for a table, this wasn't a problem as the atmosphere in the bar was buzzing with the live music. The servers were very friendly and efficient! The portions are very generous (3 times the amount we'd get in the UK!!) and the spinach dip and chips is a favourite! We'll certainly be back next time we're in town!

I've been to this Houston's probably 20-30 times. Things I like about it: food is always good and portions are generous, servers are almost always very friendly and accommodating, every seat in the house is a private booth so you're not crowded in next to someone at another table and you don't have to shout to be heard. Things I don't like: they don't take reservations and you can wait up to 1-2 hours for a table during prime lunch and dinner times, the food is good but they are generous with the oil and butter on everything so pack an extra artery, and you can easily rack up $100 for lunch for 2 people if you each have a drink, an appetizer, and a main course.

I've been going to the Houston's in the Citicorp Building for years. The food is always good, and although it gets crowded after-work and later in the evening, I have never had a problem with the hostesses. The only issue I have is the waitstaff can be overbearing, and overly-eager to clear your plates off the table. Otherwise, the decor is really nice, they make a great burger, and French dip, and I've always been happy. I can't rate the other locations in NYC though.
