so rude
Only twice in my life have I ever been offended and deeply dissatisfied by a "dining establishment" (although that phrase is used very loosely in this case)-- and both of those incidents were at this Hot and Crusty. The food is mildly edible in a pinch for the most part (if you stick to the absolute basics), but the customer service is so rude that both times I left in tears and shaking all over. The first time I ordered a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato on wheat bread-- when he gave me turkey and cheese on a big white sub roll with a huge glob of mayo he refused to remake it or to give me my money back and ridiculed me in front of a line of people pressuring me to get out of the way. This evening (after taking a many months hiatus after the first time) it was late and I was starving and Hot and Crusty was open. I ordered a grilled cheese and he charged me $5. The menu said $3.75, so I asked him if the prices had changed or if he had overcharged me. I told him it wasn't a big deal, but they should be aware that they were charging higher prices than listed in the menu. I double checked that I wasn't mistaken (and in no way was I irate or even upset-- was just asking in a very calm, nice way) and when I did so, he threw a dollar at me, told me to stop yapping, that he didn't want to hear me complaining, and told me to "get out of his face". He kept swatting his hand in my face as if dismissing me saying over and over again "Goodnight Miss, Goodnight Miss" as I tried to talk him down. (Don't ask me why I was bothering to calm HIM down) Seriously-- completely unprovoked. When I came home upset, my boyfriend called (again-- super calm and polite to make a point) to find out when he would be able to talk to the owner to file a complaint and the manager was also extremely rude to him and HUNG UP ON HIM.

The food is good. They have a decent variety of sandwiches, salads etc. Wish the staff were more organized. Food is ready very quickly. Most busy food places have a dedicated cashier that just takes payment. Not here. If 5 people ahead of you order coffee, you have to wait while the cashier makes their coffee and then takes payment from them. I work in the area and would definitely go more frequently but takes too much time.
