disappointed
I usually get their soup noodles and they are not bad. Tried the chicken and Shrimp combo today, shrimp was not fresh. Don't recommend their pre-cooked dishes. Sauce was too thick.

Spare ribs combo
Food wasn't bad. Didn't like the spring roll - too dry. No choice of sauce/pepper.

Good Chinatown style, so-so Chinese-American
When I want something like sweet & sour or General Tso's I usually go elsewhere and pay a couple dollars more for better quality. But for quick inexpensive authentic Chinatown-style this place is a great option to have.

Good Chinatown-style roast meats... in Midtown!
Not many eateries outside of Chinatown showcase roast meats hanging in a window, and that was the first tip off for me to take a closer look. Even if you're in a hurry, don't let the line for steam tray fried rice and egg rolls divert you from the second line for the rest of the menu. Because as far as Cantonese-style roast meats go, Hop Won might very well be able to hold their own were they located on Mott St. Under $7, lunch is an excellent deal particularly given the large portions. I’ve made a second meal on more than a few occasions, and for those who are so inclined, the staff is perfectly capable of accepting orders in Chinese. For those times I’m not in the mood for any of the plethora of Japanese eateries nearby, Hop Won is a more-than-welcome addition to my lunch lineup.

Guess I'll Never Know, Don't Waste Your Time!
Used this web site to find an affordable, decent restaurant close to my hotel. Made the short walk down the street with great anticipation of the meal to come. It was still early and only 2 customers were in the dining room. The counter help was busy writing something down, she knew I was there as she acknowledged my greeting. I patiently waited for her to take my order...and waited...and waited. When she finally asked what I wanted, I felt like I was an inconvenience to her. It went downhill from there and I ended up letting my money do my talking and took my business elsewhere. What a disappointment!

awesome food, great value!!!
There are only a few take outs outside of Chinatown like Hop Won. There's another one down by Wall Street called Oriental Express. But I actually think Hop Won is better. The price is cheap and the portion is large. Anyways, everyone should go to Hop Won, esp now that we are in a recession.

Good stuff
Been here about 5 times, I'm always impressed. Portions are big, enough for leftovers the next day, so you basically get 2 lunches for less than $6. I usually get Sweet & Sour Chicken Combo platter, they are very tasty. One time the batter was a bit soggy, but most of the time they get it right. Great deal for the money.
