best of NYC 2009
first off: great concept. Eclectically prepared Tex Mex style food paired with a greatt bar atmosphere. The cuban sliders are substantial. The steak tacos are sublime. When you get nachos here the sauce is con queso so you don't get an unshareable clump. Lots of goodies well distributed. The bartenders are fast and they have a huge selection of rare beers. They give you a sheet explaining all about the strong beers. Also good cocktails and sangria. This place just scored best of 2009 for me.

Great Tex-Mex with a very strong beer selection
I don't know how this last guy flamed this place like that. Live in a shoe? The have 30 draft beers, and not one of them is Bud Miller or Coors, or even Samuel Adams. Last night when I went the had Boulder Oatmeal Stout from Colorado which is awesome. The also had Dogfish Head Punkin Ale, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Delirium Tremens, Laguinitas Imperial IPA, and those are only the beers I had. They have stuff I never even heard of. The food is solid. All kinds of specials all week like $1 tacos on Tuesday. I had the chicken Mole taco plate last night. The tacos are incredible and come with a small topping of guacamole. It comes with a side of cilantro rice and a nice refried beans. The best I ever had. We also had the jumbo shrimp wrapped in jalapeno and bacon. The shrimp are huge, and they weren't really spicy. Just a nice taste. Service from this guy Hans was very attentive, but not overly so. He really knew his beers and was able to make appropriate recommendations. The World Series was on some big monitors, and it wasn't so crowded we couldn't get a table. The girls we were with got a pitcher of strong sangria for just $10! Its a Wednesday special, and they told me it was the very best sangria they ever had. I highly recommend anyone give this place a try. The atmosphere is Southwestern and almost elegant.

The low down on this place
After being around there and in the area. Tasting the food and drinking the beer there. I would never go back. the food is just alright. People say the have a great beer selection. I think they live in a shoe, but if your in the area check out the asian place across the street. It was packed on a sat night, while this place was empty for good reason.

Great beer selection, Great food
This place has one of the best happy hours in town. All drinks are are half price from 4 to 7 every weekday. I really like the food, although I just get appetizers on Mondays, when they are 1/2 price, or tacos tuesdays when that are $1. I have not tried a full meal, but I'll bet it will be good, based on what I've had so far. The beer selection at Hop Devil is where it's at. They have a large selection of constantly rotating craft brews on tap, and when 1/2 price during happy hour, they taste fantastic.

Mexican Restaurant Bar
Just moved to the neighborhood from California. Man, was I glad this was one of the first places I stopped. Take it from me, these guys are doing authentic food. Its delicous, and the prices are good. How luck was I to find out that they not only make great Southwest/Mexican food, but during happy hour they give you free chips and salsa and beer is 1/2 price? Oh yeah, they have 30 taps of craft brewed beers. And, according to my wife's friends, the best sangria in the neighborhood. The music they play is nice, and the vibe is totally chill for a restauant. My only complaint is that the service could be a little more attentive.

Great deal on food and beers
Take it from me, a major beer aficionado, this place serves a mean pint of high quality craft brew. Even Time Out New York gave them kudos for the quality brew. If you dig Southwestern Cuisine, you have to try this food. Awesome service and good sangria as well.

What happened
About a year ago I went to Hop Devil 2-3 times because of the great selection of burgers they had. Upon returning this weekend I noticed they had a completely different menu. Instead of about 8 specialty burgers to choose from, they simply had a "hamburger" that you could add cheese to for 99 cents. I decided to try to replicate my favorite burger I had gotten there a year ago. So I asked for a pepperjack burger with jalapenos. The waitress returned to let me know that they no longer have pepperjack, and they no longer have jalapenos. I don't know what they did, but the quality has gone down. Not to mention, it took about 25 minutes for our beers to come that we ordered right as we sat down.
