Hill Country Chicken

Work close to this place and always wondered the long line of people waiting for something (presumably good). I tried thier classic chicken today and loved it!!! Definitely has a taste to it that is different from other fried chicken I have had. The one problem with this place is the long lines are partly due to the slow service. Definitely will be back!

Sweet or odd are your two choices. And at $4 a piece you can't go right.

Had high hopes but was very disappointed when I tasted the sugar coated chicken. Not exactly what I expected from fried chicken. Quality of the meat was good but the seasonings do not work. Biscuits had just come out of the oven and were delicious. Sides were OK.

We went to HCC last night, and it started out ok. The atmosphere is casual, the place is clean. Boylans soda on tap, with free refills, we enjoyed that. The server was friendly in a creepy sort of way, he didn't ask which chicken we wanted, they have two kinds. He gave us the one without the skin, dry, weird spices, tasted like it was dusted in sugar, not good. The price is per piece, 3.50 for a thigh, not a terrible deal if the chicken was good, but it wasnt. The fries were a fresh batch, $4 for a large, not a very big portion, but good fries. The biscuits were cold and tiny, not good. The corn salad was not edible. All in all, we live nearby and probably won't go back.

A few weeks ago I tried what many call the best Fried Chicken in town...at The Redhead. This was far better and way less expensive. I ordered some to eat there and went back to take some home. Yummy. The breast portion was big & juicy but not greasy at all. Very flavorful. The pies were very good too.

I've read the glowing reviews and since I work across the street, I gave it a try. I may be biased because I was raised by an old southern woman and have high expectations for fried chicken. This chicken was no better than popeye's and so not worth the money. $15.24 for 2 pcs(drum & thigh), sm. coleslaw, corn salad and lemonade. Really? I will not be going again.
