Hill Country Chicken

Best fried chicken I have ever had. I sampled both with and without skin and they almost taste the same. If I lived near here I'd be fat. Love this place

Yes, the chicken's great and the pies aren't bad either. But if you're going to satisfy your chicken crave, do yourself a favor and visit the restaurant rather than ordering take out. Our take out arrived with only half our order and it took another 30 minutes for the remainder to arrive. The delivery manager wasn't very apologetic although we called twice to express our frustration.

I saw a review on the Food Network and hurried over to Hill Country. Mama El's skinless chicken is pretty darn tasty. The sides and biscuits? Not so much. I'd stick with the chicken and grab a side of mac n cheese from Whole Foods down the street. The pies looked ah-mazing and I must try them next time.

I've tried the food here 3 times. The first time it was the chicken tenders, which I thought were bland and not good at all. I was never going to go back, until I found out they have banana cream pie, which I love. So, I went back and tried the banana cream pie, the berry cobbler and a biscuit. I loved the biscuit and the banana cream pie. I thought the cobbler was ok, not great. The third time I tried 2 pieces of chicken (drumsticks) and got another biscuit. The chicken was ok. I would go back for it, but it's expensive. I got the drumsticks because they were only $2.50. The breast is around $4. The biscuit is large and buttery and only $1.

Despite all the bad reviews, I figured there's no way a place that looks like it serves Southern chicken could that bad... Man, this place is all design and not food quality. They serve two types of chicken, "poor" and "piss poor." Couldn't tell you which is which, as they're indistinguishable. Once again, the fact that this place is only about chicken AND it's so bad, just means people in this area have no idea what good fried chicken is...

I agree with everyone else and I wish they would read these reviews. Chicken skin should NOT have sugar on it. It completely ruins it. Once you peel off the nasty skin, the inside is great and juicy, but not worth the price at all. The best thing about this place is the mashed potatos. They look weird and nothing like mashed potatos but they have to be the best mashed potatos I've EVER had at a restaurant.. better than anything I've had at a fancy sit down restaurant, the cheese they put in it is sooo delicious. Don't waste your money on the chicken.. Another plus: The girl who took our order was friendly.

Had a great evening with friends at Hill Country Chicken. This spot has the best fried chicken I have had in years and it pairs perfectly with their homemade pies. Loved every minute of playing the board game Life downstairs in what they call "Grandpa's Basement." Very authentic feel and super friendly staff make this a must visit in my book. I will be back soon and often!
