Neighborhood Gem
Helios is everything that a neighborhood restaurant should be. If you're looking for the next hip Brooklyn restaurant, go elsewhere. But if you care about good food and a welcoming space, come here. The owner, Alex, is constantly thinking of ways to create an enjoyable dining experience, using fresh local ingredients to create simple but well-seasoned dishes. And it's the kind of place where you can get to know Alex and his staff and be welcomed at the bar with a nice glass of wine and good conversation. The pita is fantastic. And the other night he cooked up a 64 day old dry aged rib eye that was the best piece of meat I've ever had. Don't be fooled by the often sparse crowd- it's worth popping in and enjoying a little corner of Greece in Brooklyn.

Mmmm good!
Best burger I've ever had. Been craving it since. The fries were well seasoned and delicious too. Great wines. Delightful service. Can't wait to try the greek dishes!

Addicted to the Moussaka!
I've been coming to or getting takeout from this restaurant regularly since it opened a few years ago and always feel I'm getting good value. I have a hard time choosing between the tasty, generously portioned moussaka or the Colorado lamb souvlaki. The baby greens dinner salad is tossed in a tangy sweet but subtle dressing. The pita is meltingly warm and thick. A big plus for me is that the carryout dishes are made from recycled cardboard, not those ubiquitous plastic containers that the city does not recycle!

Undercooked food
My wife and I ordered from this place tonight. She got the chicken souvlaki and what arrived was a pile of undercooked chicken. not undercooked as in "do you think this is good?" Undercooked as in pink all the way through. Never again.

needs a LOT of improvement
our pita bread was moldy. and the service was poor. and the menu was extremely limited (they were out of several things, including shrimp and octopus). cute atmosphere, i guess.

Great food!
Helios is about as close as you can come in Brooklyn to an authentic Greek taverna. The meats and salads are incredibly fresh and the Greek dishes--particularly the moussaka--are very well made. I highly recommend the lamb souvlaki platter and the steak. And absolutely, positively try the french fries...they are fabulous! In general, I've found the vegetarian entrees a bit bland, though the mezes are great, so even if you don't eat meat there are some decent options available.

great experience
This was my first time here but I had read positive things so I gave it a try. I came here on an evening for a late lunch. Both waitresses promptly greeted me and answered all of my questions about my order. I had the black pepper, swiss bacon burger. The owner came in a little while later and chatted with me at the bar while my order was being prepared. The owner then went to the kitchen window too see how my order was doing. Now to the food. The burger was soooooooo good that my regular burger place Schnack will now be competing for my crave. All the vegetables were fresh and the Bun was thick, fresh, and superb. My burger was exactly medium well which shows their attention to getting your order how you want it. The fries were ok but were a little over seasoned with whatever seasoning they use. Overall I was pleased with my experience and if the food wasnt enough to return the genuine customer service will. MAYBE TOMORROW.
