Fantastic, authentic Mexican food!
I used to trek to Dumbo to eat in this restaurant, but I'm THRILLED they're now in Manhattan. The portions are smaller to allow you to taste different dishes. I love to go with a group and sample everything I can. And, the prices can't be beat! Most Mexican food is an American version...this is the most authentic in the city. Enjoy and try as much as you can!

So good!
This place just moved into my neighborhood and I have been twice now. It is amazing! I have been to Mexico City many times and this is one of the few places in New York that gets it right. The crab tostadas are fantastic. The pork tacos, beef burritos, and short rib tacos are to die for. Portions are small, but so are the prices. Highly recommend!

So rude!
I ordered the scrambled eggs with chorizo and asked to have it without chorizo. I'm not a vegetarian but given how many people do not eat meat I did not think that this was a ridiculous request. The waiter came back and said that the chef was very particular about food presentation and instead recommended I get eggs with tomatoe, onions and jalepenos. I replied that I didn't want jalepenos and just wanted plain scrambled eggs. He said he would check with the chef but didn't think it could be done. The chef refused! I ended up not getting anything. I think my friends enjoyed the small portions that they got. However, I have never been treated so rudely. And the waiter was not at all appologetic.

disappointing
the portions were stingy at best (right down to the saucer they brought chips out on for a table of 4. i think they had someone in back counting them out like sheckles), the food was unspectacular and have you ever been to a mexican restaurant that didn't serve rice? i could go on, but i don't have the energy. no atmosphere, no robustness, no flavor.

Best Mexico-City style food in NYC!
The food is outstanding! I have been to Hecho en Dumbo on various occasions both on Bowery and their previous location in Brooklyn. My all-time favorites are the Picaditas de Jaiba , Tacos de Costilla, and the newly-added dessert El Popo (made with Mexican-style chocolate). Everything on the menu is made fresh from scratch; from the chorizo, sauces, tortillas, to the ever-difficult to find in NYC: cecina. For those who have been to Mexico City, it is great to find the rich flavors and dishes from D.F. here in the city with the Chef's very original and delicious touch. The drinks are incredible and for those adventurous ones, the sal de gusano (salt made from the maguey plant worms) is a must-try!

Love this place!
Recently discovered this amazing new small plate Mexican spot. The drinks are innovative and delicious (try the spicy tamarind margarita!), made with fresh fresh fresh ingredients. The guacamole is made to order, the chips are made in-house, and the portions are big enough to share but small enough that you can try a few different things...and you'll want to because everything is so good! I'm so glad that someone in Manhattan is finally showcasing all that Mexican cuisine has to offer. I will definitely be back. Thanks guys!

Ordered a margarita, got a glass of syrup!
My friend and I ate here recently, sat at the kitchen bar, and were shocked that a place that showcases it's kitchen allows it's cooks to appear so sloppy! No uniforms except one lady who had stains all over her. As chefs in fine dining restaurants ourselves, we were so taken aback at the lack of care in apperance. So, on to the drinks, I ordered a lime margarita and my friend got the tamarindo margarita..ugh! It was a glass of ice with a super super sweet lime syrupy mess and a splach of tequila. My friend switched to a beer immediatly! We were asked if we wanted water, we did, and about 30 min later I had to ask if I could please get a glass of water, a very nice gentleman, not our real server was quick to get the pitcher, realized we were never set up properly, apologized and quickly fixed the situation. The food itself was okay..almost everything could have used some seasoning, but overall decent..the sad thing is, if the drinks were ANY hood we might have thought of returning..but no thanks as of that experience! Ps..why is everyone trying to make their places look like momofoko?!
