    Confused and under staffed

We went here for dinner based on location and reputation. Location was right, reputation was a fiction. The service was confused, slow and indifferent. The wine steward came to see us after the food arrived and offered a "taste" of wine as an appology for the stunning delay. The soup was too salty to eat but took so long to arrive that sending it back was not an option. Perhaps we were there on an off night. Call ahead to ask if they are playing their A team.

    Refined east village

Sometimes you want refined in the East Village and this is a great choice. Not stuffy, not old, but food and wine to linger over and savor. Attentive but not overwhelming staff. The chef's counter is a fun choice if you are on your own.

    One of the best!

I recently ate here for dinner and it couldn't have been a better experience. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff is incredibly helpful. The food was exactly what I had expected: delicious! Don't miss out! From the appetizers to the dessert, everything was perfect.

    Went Unnoticed

I would love to give a review but after standing in the door way for 15 minutes trying to get someone's attention we went on to somewhere else!

Come Back often -- the food is great

I have eaten at Hearth several times and had excellent food and service each time. The crowd is lively but not so loud you can't hear yourself and the food is like your mother might make -- if your mother were a gourmet Italian cook with an eye for fine ingredients. The "cucina povera" menu is a great value. I've never gone away hungry. You need to appreciate quality food to eat here. Because the food is quality though the portions are medium-large by city standards.

    Awful

I was shocked by the garish red pieces of carpet tacked to the walls (but falling off - almost right onto our table), the pretentious service, the stale bread, and the bland uninspired mediocre food. It was almost as bad as being in a tourist trap in Little Italy. For the same price you can have an ethereal meal at Scarpetta or a homey supper at Lupa. I NEVER post reviews like this but people need to be warned that the bad reviews are not exaggerations.

    Don't bother!

My husband and I went here on a rare evening out, away from the baby. We should have gone elsewhere! What a waste of money and precious time. It was a Monday evening and we were seated right away. The server asked us what type of water we'd like, but never returned! It was over 20 minutes and I had to ask the hostess what was going on. The weird thing was that the server did come by once to collect the tiny empty "chef's complimentary soup" glasses, but ignored us! Besides the service the food is way beyond overpriced. $26 for a small plate of pasta? You've got to be kidding me. The salad and entrees also took a very long time to arrive. Annoyingly, they kept trying to take my husband's plate while he was still eating with a fork in his hand. In the restroom they had several framed articles about the place and good reviews from 2004, but that was 5 years ago. They've lost touch.
