Inedible food
Have been going here for many years. Tonight got the butter chicken and thought I might have to call 911 after having a bite. It was full of grease and all curdled. How could a chef present this? There are so many great Indian restaurants in the East Village -- do not go to Haveli.

it was 103 degrees out .when we walked in they sat us and imediately started serving water, not free tap water, $5.50 bottles after they served two of those they offered free water. meal was ok. when the bill came they were not satisfied with the $8.00 cash tip we left for a $54.00 bill for poor service i should have left nothing!

Overpriced Food with Poor Service
I went to Haveli with my wife this past Friday night to celebrate my birthday. The food was decent, comparable to the dishes that can be found at any of the multitude of Indian restaurants in the East Village, but the prices were high and the service was terrible. The waiter tried to up-sell us when we ordered a bottle of wine, the service generally was indifferent when it wasn't rude and the waiter had the audacity to question my 16% tip after the waitstaff forgot to bring out a birthday pastry as requested by my wife. I would never, ever go back to this restaurant, even if it were the last Indian restaurant in Manhattan.

Not what it ued to be, by far
I have ordered take-out from here, since they opened and will no more. The multiple and subtle spices used, used to be interesting. The curries now are banal and many appetizers/bread have a moldy water stench to them. Not worth the extra $s.

Upset I spent my $$$
Last nite Jan 22, 2010, a good friend & I decided to foregoe Sea Thai down the block to go to Haveli. I've been coming here since 1996 and the last time I was here is summer 2008, the food was delicious then, hence if you look at the reviews they're all from 2008. Anyway we order the Lamb Shaag, Roti Paratha (filled w/ potatoes)...looked more like a crispy roti sandwich w/ homefries and lacking taste. I asked the waiter to remove it from my sights it was that nasty. The Lamb Shaag was watery, flavorless, and the cubes of lamb were so tough o could hardly cut it w/ my knife. First of all I couldn't even swallow the meat because I kept chewing and chewing and ended up spitting it into my napkin. I asked the waiter if they changed the chefs since I was last there in 2008 & he said "No", they offered to cook a new dish of Lamb Shaag, I ok'd it but when I got the new dish I quickly realized that it was the same dish only that they added more spices. Conclusion, I will never step foot in this joint again. Please folks you can get tastier food on the cheap at an Indian takeout. Don't Eat Here! It's not good Anymore!
