Shocked at how good it was

I wasn't expecting much, but the Ropa Vieja with rice and black beans was terrific... and I should know, I owned a cuban restaurant.... and made this dish myself. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other dishes (empanadas were tasty, but on the large side). If you order off of the 15 minute menu on the back, you'll be in and out in a jiffy.

    Excellent Food and Speedy Service

My husband and I go here for lunch to treat ourselves, and everytime we have gone, the service is fast and the food delicious. It does tend to get crowded during lunch so I always make reservations. So far we've had the roast pork, cuban sandwich (w/ sweet potato fries, de-lish), arroz con pollo and their salmon salad. Their rice and black beans, so-so good. I even planned in advance to have a piece of cake w/ a candle to surprise my husband for his b-day in July, and they accomodated. I did not even request a type of cake, and they surprised us with their "Tres Leches" cake which was absolutely delicious...and the staff came out to sing to him. I did notice that the delivery menu is different from eating at the restaurant, so that's we always opt to eat there. Almost forgot, I had mojito once, and they definitely hooked it up for me. I also love the Cuban ambiance there! Overall service we received from them was very good, and they were attentive.

    not the real deal

First of all let me say that I have lived in NYC my whole life, I am not a tourist visiting the theater district. My friends and I who are Latino always eat cuban food. So we decided to try this place because we were going to a play. The food was terrible. I am used to authentic fresh Cuban food. The Sangria was ok not enough alcohol. The tostones were so dry and without any flavor. The fried yuca was so dry and tasteless with way too much garlic. The seafood paella, rice was ok the the clams were sandy, yuch..... The soup was not hot enough and very salty, the pork was so fatty almost inedible. I don't mind paying $100.00 for an entree if the food is good, authentic and fresh and tasy. I was extremely dissappointed and would not go back again. Maybe people who are not familiar with the real deal don't know any better.

    a must for theatre goers

great food and atmosphere- the cuban sandwich w/ sweet potato fries is enough for two. the mojitos are superb- try ALL the flavors- but after two you could lose track of your hips and legs. great atmosphere--attentive service and the music is fantastic. I highly recommend.

    Why did I do it...

So me and my coworkers (all concierges in Times Square) decided to order food from this place after taking a reccomendation. We decided to order food and to my surprise when we brought it back in it was missing the sweet potato fries that come with a cuban sandwich (it states that on the menu). I called to say that they missed something and they said that I could only get the fries when someone dines in. WHAT !!! So you mean to tell me that I had to pay $9 for a crappy dry sandwich and it only comes with fries if I sit down. B.S. if I ever heard it. It will be my first and last time that I try to be nice to this restaurant. It is a rip off !

    Muy Bueno!

This is our second visit to Havana Central and we weren't disappointed. The cocktails, the food and the service here are always good and though it's not like the food your Cuban grandmother used to make, you can't expect it to be now can you? If, however, you want to go out and have some fun at a nice place and here some good music, check out Havana Central. You'll enjoy yourself. We did.

If this is Cuban food....revolt now!

Almost $100 for one of the worst meals of my life. Paid $15 for their "sampler" appetizer platter which had about $1.50 worth of food on it. Everything was room temperature. I ordered the world famous "Cuban Sandwich" that was absolutely inedible.I mean c'mon.... How does a Cuban restaurant worth it's salt in NYC screw up a Cuban sandwich? They completely got my wife's entree wrongs. What should have been Arroz Con Pollo was rice and shrimp. Which in turn was a huge mound of rice with 4 shrimp in it. If this is any reflection of Cuban food.... Fidel Castro and Communism is the least of their problems.
