    poor service

Well, we ate dinner early-5pm and the service was lacking. The place was not busy but we waited for our drinks to arrive as well as to place our food order. It was hard to get the attention of the staff-they would walk by but not look at you. I have to say that the food was pretty good. The drinks were tasty. Wouldn't rush back, plenty of other Cuban spots to try.

    Sad, Cuban disappointment

I went to graduate school in So. Florida and since moving back to New York three years ago, I have been on the hunt for a good cuban restaurant. My boyfriend and I were driving by and saw the location on Broadway and 113th Street near Colombia University. I convinced my boyfriend to go there since he has never had cuban food. My picks have always gone over well with him and I thought for sure that he would be pleased with my pick. The hostess was very friendly and we waited about 10 minutes for a booth. When we sat down, we immediatley realized that the service would not be satisfactory as we waited several minutes (and the restaurant was not busy) for our waiter. When he arrived, he was not friendly. We ordered our food and the presentation was undesirable. The taste was also disappointing. The waiter seemed annoyed when we asked him a question. For instance, my boyfriend ordered a sprite with ice and the waiter bought a sprite with no ice. When my boyfriend asked for the ice, the waiter sucked his teeth and grabed the glass from the top with his palm over the top of the glass. The waiter didn't notice that we had no silverware and we needed more water. The yuca with alioli sauce was no good and the guacamole and chips was also bad. Needless to say, I will not recommend or patronize Havana Central again.

    Poor service

I have gone to Havana restaurant twice once with co-workers an another with friends. The atmosphere was very very nice with live music. When it came to ordering food the waiter was rude we were sitting there for about a 45mins before he offered any water. When we all asked for water he said "Everybody is going to get some water". After we ordered our food he never came back till it was check time. 2 weeks after that I went with my two friends and our food was cold our drinks were made very cheaply. And once again the waiter never checked back with us until it was check time. The bus boy was much nicer.

    Great experience

Havana Central is one of my favorite places to go every time my boyfriend and I are in NY. The food always is great and the service is really energetic. The tres leches can NOT be passed up, it's amazing!

    poor food and customer service

On a recent outing to havana central we were waiting 30 minutes for our food and then when it came, one of the dishes the chicken-was lukewarm and the fried sweet potatoes cold! When we informed the waiter they were taken away from the table. They were produced about 3 minutes later. The steam was still rising from the plate of chicken one can only assume it was microwaved and the fries a fairly charcoaly-black colour obviously re-fried! Needless to say they were not eaten. Then they had the cheek to charge us for this rubbish that was inedible!! Stay away would be my advice. The Customer Service is non-existent they actually made fun of us! Be Warned!!! The only positive thing I could say is that the atmosphere is buzzy

Shocked at how good it was

I wasn't expecting much, but the Ropa Vieja with rice and black beans was terrific... and I should know, I owned a cuban restaurant.... and made this dish myself. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other dishes (empanadas were tasty, but on the large side). If you order off of the 15 minute menu on the back, you'll be in and out in a jiffy.

    Excellent Food and Speedy Service

My husband and I go here for lunch to treat ourselves, and everytime we have gone, the service is fast and the food delicious. It does tend to get crowded during lunch so I always make reservations. So far we've had the roast pork, cuban sandwich (w/ sweet potato fries, de-lish), arroz con pollo and their salmon salad. Their rice and black beans, so-so good. I even planned in advance to have a piece of cake w/ a candle to surprise my husband for his b-day in July, and they accomodated. I did not even request a type of cake, and they surprised us with their "Tres Leches" cake which was absolutely delicious...and the staff came out to sing to him. I did notice that the delivery menu is different from eating at the restaurant, so that's we always opt to eat there. Almost forgot, I had mojito once, and they definitely hooked it up for me. I also love the Cuban ambiance there! Overall service we received from them was very good, and they were attentive.
