I went the the tavern for the first time on super bowl Sunday. The place was packed and surprisingly had a velvet rope outside with a one person waiting line. So pretentious!! Got in quickly and stood inside at the bar. Got shoved around by some patrons and was told by the waitress, when the shovers complained about my presence, that this was a common area to be shared by all. I was not so politely asked to leave the area! When I spoke to the owner about the situation I was brushed aside. I have lived in Harlem a long time and this has never happened to me. There is always a first but it's the last time I will set foot in the tavern on 116th street.

12 dollars for a glass of house merlot on 116 St...Really? We had to stand inside by the bar. The place was packed and so noisy. But the outdoor area looked nice though.

Very nice place, especially the large outdoor area. Had salmon for lunch with a glass of wine. It was very good. Nice service. Liked it very much. Will definitely go again.

Labor Day late brunch, was able to sit outside under an umbrella without waiting thanks to a very accommodating host. Server had a pleasant attitude but spilled my drink on me while placing it on the table. Not an issue, accidents happen, but there was no acknowledgement or apology offered after I asked for a napkin. Ordered the burger medium rare which unfortunately was raw. Fries were good. Was surprised the draft beer selection was so small but a variety of bottles were also offered. The table beside me seemed to have issues with splitting the bill and getting change from the waiter. Frankly, I assumed the issue was theirs as they were students and concerned with cash to the penny and even discussed knowing they left a crappy tip. When I asked for my bill, $14.95 + tax = $16.30 total, I left a $20 and asked for change. The waiter returned with $3 and no coins. I left $2 knowing the extra .70 would suffice to make an 18% tip but would have gladly left $3 for 20% if I hadn't felt hustled. Small potatoes but important for good service. I might return for a drink and pleasant outdoor environment but food and service are another matter.

Not that long of a wait, which was great for a Friday night. Salads looked great, so I ordered the Chopped Salad with chicken. The salad arrived and then I noticed I had no utensils! So, had to wait a while before I could get the waiter's attention to bring me utensils. The salad was a bit awkward (chicken was in big pieces, so you had to cut it) and the dressing was so disappointing, I could hardly taste it. I asked the waiter to bring me a side of ranch dressing. About 5 minutes later he arrived with blue cheese dressing. At that point, since my husband was already done eating his burger, I settled for the blue cheese dressing. Not sure why they have these pretty good salads, but dressing is not good! On a positive note, the sweet potato fries were amazing, the burgers were good, but the brioche bun didn't do it for my husband. All in all we had a good time, but just wish the service and quality of food could be a little bit better. I really hope the owners will take these comments to heart. We really need a quality restaurant in this neighborhood without having to drive all the way over to Dinosaur BBQ!

I went here with five people on a Thursday night with reservations. They did seat us even though not everyone was there. which is an important feature to note in New York. The place was packed inside and out. The outdoor area is very large and it has a great biergarten feel, but not biergarten prices. The indoor area has a nice vibe. It is lush, broad, masculine, and bar-like, but I'm not a fan of the attendant that needs a tip in the bathroom. Thanks, I can get my own towel to dry my hands. I had a pulled pork sandwich. It was nothing special. The fries were good. The fried cheese balls were dry. Even though it was busy we sat for hours and no one made us feel pressured to hurry or rush away from the table. The owner came by to ask us how everything was, which I always like. It's nice to know the people behind the restaurant. I think I would definitely go again on a nice night to get a pint or two outside, but I may not go for a full meal again.
