    Disappointed....

I've been to HL with my husband for his birthday & we had a wonderful dinner. So we went back again for our wedding anniversary & everything was ok, not as good as last time.

    Is the view worth it?

I'd say a definite maybe. There are no two ways about it, the view is incredible. Sitting all the way out on pier 17, overlooking South Street Seaport with the bridges towering above you is quite a sight. And it adds a tremendous amount of romance and elegance to the dining experience. But the food is just not up to par, and certainly not worth the cost. Once I got over the view and actually looked at the menu, I thought I was in for a great meal. There is plenty to choose from meat and seafood alike, with a nice selection of appetizers and wines. When the food came out, though, it was simply disappointing. I ordered the filet medallions with bleu cheese. They were smaller than expected, overcooked, and tough. Not the quality of meat that the price would suggest. Also ordered was the Fettuccini & Shellfish which was drowned in a very watery sauce and, again, a lot less fish than the price would suggest. The view and ambiance and atmosphere are incredible, but the food is not nearly on par.

A wonderful end to my birthday

My sister and I spent a week in New York to celebrate my 40th birthday. We had a wonderful time, New Yorkers are so helpful and friendly, and the shopping was great value. So I didn't think things could get any better until my birthday. After a trip on the Staten Island very and a lots of shopping around South Street and Pier 17, we had lunch in the Harbour Way Restaurant. It was an overcast day, with light rain and a cool temperature but we soon warmed up, sitting in big arm chairs in front of a cosy fire, while waiting for our table. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was friendly and attentitive without being too invasive. Our table was ready within a five minutes. The private dining room was full of well-heeled ladies in their 60s (old school friends perhaps). The rest of the restaurant had a more varied, smart casual feel. We had fillet mignon and lobster, which was perfect. I ordered "medium/rare" and my sister ordered "well done". We both loved our steaks, which were the most tender we'd ever tasted. The vegetables were good too, especially the baked potatoes, which were full of flavour (though not piping hot). My sister had the Brooklyn Bridge chocolate mousse dessert, which she thoroughly enjoyed and I had the chocolate pudding, which was very good. It came with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and that helped cut through the richness of the warm chocolate sauce that oozed from the pudding's centre. What made the meal, and the day memorable for me, was that when the desserts arrived, the waiting staff brought them to our table singing "Happy Birthday" to me, two lit candles - a 4 and a 0, flicking as they came. (My sly sister had slipped the candles to them!) To my further delight, the chef had etched a pattern around my plate in chocolate with the words "Happy 40th Birthday". We found food to be very good value in the US. Our meal cost around $120, including service, and was worth every dollar.

    Amazing!

I went there with my husband for our 6 year wedding anniversary and it was breathtaking. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the view was totally breathtaking. We sat outside on the balcony with the beautiful bridges lit on up a perfect night. A moment I will never forget!

    Great views, good food,Great service

It was late afternoon and my sweetie wanted to go to Pier 17, the sun was too bright on the south side of the pier, so we gave Harbor View a try. the greeter at the door was from Sligo Ireland and had all the Irish charm that you could ask, after being seated our wait person, was attentive and accomodated our every need. Although the price was a bit dear( I would guess that their rent was sky high), but sitting outside with a view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridge and the river traffic was awesome, we came away from a delicious lunch for about $40 without wine and were thrilled with it's addition to a wonderful day>

The Best Romantic Time I Ever Had

I discovered Harbour Lights while on a business trip. The group of us had an awesome luncheon experience; so nice that we went back there on the next day for lunch. On my next pleasure trip to NYCity, I decided to check out HL for dinner. I was banking on the same dining experience I had at luncheon; however, I couldn't have been more wrong-my dining experience at HL was so awesome that it can only be describe in a picutre. Our entrees, service, atompshere, breeze, and view were all far above superb. I basked in the glory of it all. Thank you HL for an awesome dinner!!!!!!! And for the beginning of the best romantic time of my life.
