A friend who goes to Hamachi often took me there last week. The quality of the fish was good, and the service was not bad. They gave us a few free rolls and a free dessert. We were the only people in the whole place at 6pm on a Wednesday, and then Reggie Miller walked in. We definitely did not expect that. I think he ordered the shrimp tempura roll, and I heard him comment on how good it was. All in all, I recommend this place if you are in the neighborhood.

These reviews are obviously written by the owners of this place. I took a friend there for her birthday, based on these reviews. It was a mistake - what a subpar way to celebrate a birthday. What a subpar way to dine in general. The food was below average, the decor was unimpressive and the service?! What service? It was a dis-service. I've lived in NYC for many years. I eat out lunch and dinner almost every meal. Of the hundreds of places I've chosen to dine, this is near the bottom of the list.

By no means the best sushi in the city, but far above most "neighborhood" places in the quality of the fish, the meticulous preparation, the knowledgable first chef and the warm hospitality. Only a "destination" sushi restaurant would be worth preferring over Hamachi.

Hamachi is hands down the best Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood. The food is amazing, the service is attentive and helpful, and delivery is fast. I enjoy eating in the restaurant or ordering take-out at home or work. I recommend the Earth, Wind and Salmon rolls as well as the spicy tuna rolls. They have a good selection of Sake, and the presentation of the meal, whether in the restaurant or delivery, is always perfect. I recommend Hamachi frequently and enthusiastically and will continue to do so.

I went to the restaurant based on these reviews and it was certainly not what I expected. With 4.5 rating and three dollar signs, I expected something much better. The place is definitely not cool, just your average sushi place. In fact, it is lacking in the cool decor. The sushi is average and the service was not something to boast about. I was very disappointed and will not go again.

I found hamachi by searching menupages for a sushi restaurant around gramercy and went relying solely on the reviews. What a great meal! We didn't go until almost 10pm yet the fish was probably the freshest I've had in the city. The rolls were generous size and the staff was kind and attentive -- they even gave us fried banana for dessert! If only the restaurant was open in my neighborhood I'd be a regular.

Hamachi takes the concept of vegetarian sushi to new heights with their peanut rolls and shiitake mushroom rolls. This is one of those places where everything is so good your eyes roll back in your head. I've taken plenty of people here who eat fish and they agree with me. Fantastic!
