    Good time!

Went there last thursday for lunch - good food, good beer, reasonable prices. Had a blast with those two ladies behind the bar - service excellent! Great place to hang out.

    Good German Soulfood!

This was our second visit at Hello Berlin Restaurant and we'll definitely come back on our next vacation to New York. The food was not like in Germany but it was really enjoyable. Specially the Jaegerschnitzel and the Roulade is worth to try! The service was good, the waitress was friendly and was even speaking german to us. The Restaurant itself has a real Beerhall atmosphere which my husband and me really liked.

    Dissapointed

I have traveled to germany on many occasions and love authentic german restaurants. This one unfortunately misses the mark. The beer was flat and not served correctly. Pils beer should be cold and crisp not flat. The mustard and wursts were spicy which anyone who has been to germany knows is not correct. The server was not german and knew nothing about germany. We were the only ones in the place and we had to find him for a second round of flat beer. I don't think that in NYC, a german speaking waiter is impossible to find. The decor reminded me of an inner city post communist Berlin that scremed of euro trash and grafitti. I was expecting Mike Myers to stop by as Dieter of Sprockets from SNL. I know I'm being harsh but I dont think I'm being unreasonable when I expect a german themed restaurant to have good beer, german food and someone who is german working there. Remember the customer is looking for the experience. Again, I dont feel unreasonable that for the prices we pay to go to a restaurant in NYC we expect the best. So as far as whether I would reccomend this place to anyone else....I say Nein!

    I expected better

This was my first time at Hallo Berlin. I am from Germany and based on the reviews I read I thought it would be nice to bring my mother and friends. The atmosphere was ok, but too much yellow. I ordered the mixed sausage platter which, while tasty, was not authentic. The wursts were prepared incorrectly (weiss wurst is boiled, not fried and sliced) and the mustards served were too spicy. I also ordered weiss bier, again, while tasty, was poured incorrectly and my dripping glass was served to me with no coaster or napkin. I watched the waiter as he poured our beers and I wanted to cry. Either adjust the pressure in the taps, flush out the lines or buy bottled beer only because the pours were horrible. Our waiter knew nothing about the items on the menu, forgot utensils and never checked back to see if we wanted more overpriced beer. (which we did) Other items ordered were the potato pancakes (good) pretzels (also good) and the Triple B burger (disappointing and not very tasty) The only real saving grace was that they had a decent schnapps for after the meal. I have to say I expected more considering the great reviews the restaurant received. To sum up, the food was good, the service was not, and the beer was overpriced.

    Inexpensive German fare

We went here after Weds matineevery convenient. We started with two potato pancakes ($5). I had two thick decent sized pork chops, smoked and drizzled in mustard. It came with small portions of potato salad, cucumber salad, sauerkraut and string beansall done German style. Soup was included a big bowl of lentil soupyummy! ($18) My spouse had chicken cutlets (two thin smallish cutlets) with sauerkraut, potato salad and fries, and a bowl of cream of cauliflower soup.($15) Everything was excellent deep frying of cutlets and pancakes were done well. Chops were fresh and without gristle.. Service was OK. Beer garden in the back was pleasant and roomy, but not fancy. The prices are good considering you get soup and various sides. The one tiny piece of Italian (?) bread we got (not even black forest or pumpernickel) was only disappointment. Definitely worth a repeat visit for the various wurst offerings on crusty bread at $5 each!

The best wurst in the city

The sausage platters (get the one with german fries & kraut) are amazing. Service is what you'd expect from a beer hall. Overall a very nice find--will be back often.
