Well I discovered Hale and Hearty yesterday and loved it so much I'm going back today. I know it's a little pricy but everything is pricy in Manhattan and I have paid a lot more for much worse food in search of lunch in Midtown NYC.

I concur with the other reviewers- this is some pricey soup but if you choose well, it's worth the money every now and then. My favorites are the special soups- crab bisques, corn chowders and mulligatawny. I never cared much for their regular soups which are the less expensive ones. I go here when I want to splurge as a medium special soup is anywhere from $4-7 and a drink is $1.60. If I'm feeling extra splurgey, or if my boss is buying, I'll get a rice krispy treat for an extra $1.50. The sandwiches look good but I've never gotten one.

I concur with the other reviewers that the soups are pretty good, but the overall value isn't. The prices are simply too high! Half sandwich and a cup of soup shouldn't cost more than $10 bucks. They need to come up with a much much better offer to keep me coming back.

I've been to Hale and Hearty twice now. The soups have been average but the final price is not. If you do not care about price then come on down, but if you are looking for value, keep walking mister.

I was introduced to Hale and Hearty by a co-worker. I found myself there at least 3 times a week. The food is great as well as the service. I find they are a bit pricey, as much as I complain about the price I continue to find myself standing at the counter decided on what soup I'll have for lunch. I highly recommend giving it a try, I suggest you go when you feel like SPLURGING.

$7.59 for a 12 oz. (medium size) cup of soup? I think not! I'd like a scalp massage or manicure thrown in for that price. The soup was not bad and the servers were polite and helpful but the manager seemed dismissive and rude. Overall, a negative experience.

Let me start by saying that Hale & Hearty is my lunch choice 4-5 days of the week. The quality of the soup ranges from ok to supurb depending on the selection. The shrimp bisque is the very best soup that they make. The Roman tomato with sausage, steak and potato, chicken and mushroom marsala, etc are all very good. The selections with black bean have been disappointing. Then there is the value or lack of- A medium soup can be $6.95, with tax that is $7.55. To me $7.55 for a medium sized cup of soup is really priced too high. This establishment straddles the value line incredibly. Add a half a sandwich and a drink and you are well over 10 bucks. Try the rice krispies and marshmellow block- it's great! The 49th Street/between 6th and 7th location does a fine job with service once you get to know them. Thus is my love-hate relationship with Hale & Hearty- love the soup but hate the value..
