    Sometimes good, sometimes poor

I find Hale & Hearty to be good, but inconsistent. The service is not great, some of the servers will just dump a scoop or two of rice in the soup, there doesn't appear to be a formula to that. Still, the tuna is good, the bread very fresh and some of soups are delicious, like the vegetable chowder and the Roman Tomato with pasta. I also like the salads very much and recommend the low fat balsalmic vinagette.

    Expensive, small portions

Good was tasty but definitely more expensive than I planned on spending for a bowl. Ordered the sweet corn chowder and half a tuna sandwich which cost just under $10. Kind of expensive for soup, and the tuna sandwich did not have that much tuna but really consisted of lots of bread. Good flavor with the dill and tuna combined. I also could not order my own sandwich because it was outside of normal lunch hours (it was past 3pm) so I had to choose from pre-made sandwiches that were probably sitting there since the lunch hour. Overall, I cringed when I paid $10 for the soup and small sandwich, and probably would try a different restaurant in the area before I went back to H&H.

    Great soup delivered

A giant bowl of soup and 2 pieces of bread delivered to my door when it's 10 degrees outside? Can't get any better than that! And the soup is delicious.

    My favorite place to eat

Hale and Hearty had the best food with the best value. It was awesome for someone who doesn't like to sit there forever and waste their vacation sitting in a fancy restaurant. It was great food and very filling.

    No-nonsense, well-portioned lunch

Seeing as how a burger and fries in NYC is $15, I thought this was a great value. I thought the portions were perfect. For $7-8, I got a serving of soup (1 cup) and half of a hearty sandwich and a drink. I was totally full when I finished. The service was rushed and barky, but it was fast, and if you knew what you wanted when it came to be your turn, you were fine. I will definitely go back.

    Diner in NYC

I didn't find the soup here to be that impressive. The size is certainly smaller for the same soups you could get at Au Bon Pain or other delis. The service could have been much better as well. I won't be wasting my money at H&H again.

    Soups

If you don't mind waiting in line for 10-15 minutes and paying $7 or $8 for a cup of pretty good soup, thi is your place. If you prefer a merely good cup of soup you can get quickly for $4-5 this is not for you.
