Awesome burgers
I had the best veggie burger here on 10/28 and my colleague said her burger was awesome too. Nice place with excellent service. Will return.

Call ahead to see if they're open!
This place definitely has potential; the desserts are great, the drinks are priced right, and the owner is enthusiastic and well-meaning (if a bit odd). But I'd never come by on a whim, nor would I ever plan on meeting friends here at the end of a night, because there's no way to tell whether they'll be open on any given day or at any given hour, which is incredibly frustrating.

pretty good
Haakon's Hall has surprisingly good food. Skirt steak is great (both standing alone and as a sandwich), pressed sandwich is great, their fish entrees tend to be good, and thanksgiving-style dinner is also really good. Prices are really cheap considering the quality of the food. In general, morningside heights doesn't exactly set the bar when it comes to good food, but haakon's hall is pretty exceptional.

Good Food - Odd Feel
The menu is all over the place, but I've got to saythe food is very good. Thechicken is moist, well cooked rotiserie style and plentyful with very good mash potatoes and veggies. The onion soup is made with good stock and deeply rich. The plates offer great variety from bugers to pork chops to Norwegen dishes to chicken pot pie. Pat Lafreida meat and onepot meal to daily specials. The highest item is a steak at $14.50. Great beer list and full bar. Oh deserrt was insanely great - a thin crisp waffle of substnce, served warm with ligonberries & whipped cream sandwich and artisanal ice cream.

My Favorite Restaurant in the Neighborhood
I love trying new restaurants and this is my favorite in the Columbia U. area. There's a real Chef in the kitchen. Cozzy atmosphere and everything I've ordered there was really good. The prices are unusually low too.

Cozy atmosphere and hot, delicious food
I've been here a couple of times since it reopened in the spring. As a recent New York transplant, I've been getting a feel for where to get great food in the city, and Haakon's Hall is one of the more successful experiments. I love the Norwegian menu (half my family is Scandinavian), and the ambiance of the restaurant itself is great--well-lit and big, but full of nice little nooks where you can sit and have some privacy. The chicken is tender and flavorful, and the cookie plate--while a bit pricey--is great for splitting, and worth the wait. Definitely a neighborhood spot I want to visit more.

$7 Coca Cola
Been twice this week. Everyday Pasta was tasty, the chicken salad sandwich I had today was good but not great. Atmosphere is nice, although not significantly nicer than Amsterdam one block away. I'm very irrate though - I just noticed that they do not have free refills, so without warning I ended up having to pay $7 for coke. This explains why my share of yesterday's bill was high too. LAME. Soda is already a high profit margin item, charging for every refill is ridiculous. At least one refill should be free. Probably not going there again.
