    Disappointed

I have been to other Japanese bbq restaurants, and this was the worst. We waited for over 30 minutes for our table. The food portions were very small, overpriced, and not much variety. They also played weird wedding music the whole night. I do not recommend going to this restaurant.

Great date place, a lil pricey but worth it!!

Obviously when you go on a date you are looking for a somewhat fun place that is classy with nice drinks but not too pricey. we got one of the side by side grilling booths, highly recommended; I had my girl next ot me which made it easy to talk and feed eat other etc.. Everything was really good, the kalbi soup and shrimp dumpling soups were great. I know they recommend 2 trays of meat per person, but we got the soups, 4 trays of meat total, two portions of steamed rice and two veggie plates, it was a little much. I would say order 3 trays of meat first then order another if you need, its uncooked so they bring it out fast. center cut filet- amazing basil chicken- really good sea bass-amazing miso harabi-not that amazing get some drafts and some sake. enjoy

    overpriced, mediocre quality

After an order for takeout, I arrived for pick up to the news that the phone order taker hadn't communicated the correct order and was informed in a dismissive manner that the rest of the order "wouldn't take long." After returning 10 minutes later, I learned that the $12 yellowtail sushi appetizer includes only 4 slices of not-fresh product, and that the $10 bibimbap order should more aptly be a $5 order of fried rice. Terrible value for this neighborhood and I will not return.

    My favorite restaurant!

This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants to visit in the city! I've been to this one and the Astor Place location countless times, and always have an amazing dining experience. The food is truly excellent. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I always get the Harami, but the filet, kobe, seabass, tuna are always good picks too. Aside from the delicious food, the whole experience is truly wonderful from the excellent service to the fun ambiance. It's always fun to go with a big group and try a bunch of things (and try lots of sake!), but also nice to go for an intimate dinner because the tables are semi-private. Gyu-kaku is a MUST try!! You won't be disappointed!

This is truly a favorite of mine when I am on the East Coast. The service, food and atmosphere are more than worth the price highly reccomended. Groooovy Baby!!!!!!!!!

    Best Midtown Japanese!

Ignor any negative reviews on this place. It is really fantastic. Hate to be a stickler but the service was a little slow and difficult to understand but only a little. The food was great. For those of you who dont know, this is a japanese barb place. That means it requires some work to cook your own food for the best dishes, but that's your choice. Great deal for the money...and these days that makes a difference.

    great place

My boyfriend and I went here after seeing the good reviews on this website and we were not disappointed. The food was very good he had the kobe filet (melt-in-your-mouth delicious!) and i had chicken. We also ordered kimchee, garlic potatoes, assorted mushrooms and udan noodles. It sounds like a lot of food, but they recommend you order a bunch of things because the portions are small. The tab adds up getting all these smaller portioned sides, but it was worth it. We also enjoyed our seats, which were 2 chairs side by side facing a window which overlooked the street. The service was great. This was a great date place and I would definitely recommend it.
