my chinese take-out of choice on the UES

If you're looking for great tasting, well made hole-in-wall Chinese takeout on the UES, this place is tops for me. The prices are a little bit higher than other similar takeouts, but the portions are generous, the service is fast and every dish I've tasted has been a notch above the rest in the area. Highly recommended for a quick Chinese food fix.

    Not recommended

If you're asian, I don't think you will like this food. The chow fun were soft and chopped up. The singapore chow mei fun was spicy but flavorless. The general tso's chicken and sesame chicken were very obviously made with the same sauce--only the sesame chicken was sprinkled with sesame. So not only were the sauces wrong, they didn't even taste good. The chicken was obviously soaked in soy sauce for a "chinese" flavor.......but this only resulted in making both dishes extremely salty and unpleasant. The pork fried rice was your typical americanized fried rice that does not resemble real fried rice in any way. Sure, the place is cheap, and doles out decent portions. But what's the point of getting a huge portion of subpar food?

Simply the best UES Chinese delivery

For the perfect Chinese delivery experience on the UES, call Guo's Garden. The food is superb, the accuracy of your order is always spot-on and you never have a bad meal! The food is consistently fresh and made just right! They have no problems or issues with customizing an order like most places on the UES. Caution: THE FOOD IS ADDICTIVE...yes, it's that good for a local hole in the wall. You may not like the single table environment, or the open-air kitchen, but the fact is that this place is for take-out or delivery! The owners are just the nicest people! Very friendly on the phone! I definitely recommend this hidden gem to all!

    Holy mother of time warp!

I read some of the reviews on here and was wondering whether or not this place was legitimately decent... I ordered the General Tsao's Chicken with Pork Fried rice. I hung up the phone at 3:23 pm and it arrived at 3:38 pm. HOW DID THEY DO IT SO FAST!!!?? Chicken is flavorful but a little chewy and the rice is slightly dry. But considering that lunch was $4.85 and got her in about 10 minutes I would say that's pretty impressive. Not to mention the delivery guy was FRIENDLY!! He said 'have a good day my friend' soooo sweeet!!

    Our chinese standby

When you want REAL chinese take-out food...the stuff that you know isn't helping your diet, but sure tastes great, order from here. I get their General Tso's chicken everytime and love it, my fiance loves their eggrolls. The prices are perfect and so is the free soda. They have never gotten our order wrong.

    A Good Solid Takeout Place

We ordered 5 lunches ($4.85 each). Chicken in black bean sauce was very good with ample black bean flavor. Shrimp with broccoli was OK, as was beef with tomato. Bean curd in garlic sauce and prork in garlic sauce were both very spicy and garlicky--which we liked. An additional beef chow fun ($8.50) was very good (noodles soft, not stuck together, enough oyster sauce) and had the true wok aroma. The order was over $30 so we got 4 free fried wings which were excellent. Delivery was prompt . The meal (for 3 nights) was a good value and except for the unappealing look of the place, everything else was fine.

Definitely a Hole in the Wall

This tiny place has one table and a counter to order your food. Typically there is one chef and the counter service. This place is a favorite of doormen and other locals. Great, cheerful delivery. You may have to experiment to find their best dishes, but when you hit on your favorite, this place can hold its own. They will also cheerfully make substitutions and create special meals... You get a free soda if you order more than $10 and I asked once if they could make it a particular kind of soda -- and I've gotten that soda ever since without ever asking again. Great little independent place.
