Guantanamera

I was very pleased to have a Cuban restaurant open in the neighborhood. I have had dinner here three times and lunch once with different visitors. The food is consistently good with a good variey to choose from. Portions are satisfying. However the service is poor. I chalked it up to being new the first and second time but give me a break! everytime I go in? You would think with the number of staff they have floating around someone might want to wait on you! I doubt I will return.

The food was pretty good -- I had a nice Cuban sandwich and a side of black beans and rice; my brother had a chicken fricassee that he enjoyed. The service, however, was almost nonexistent. We were seated promptly, and then it took forever before anyone even came over to ask us if anyone had come to take our drink order. The food arrived pretty quickly, but no one came over to check on us before we were finished. In fact, it was even hard to figure out who our actual waiter was. The problem wasn't that anyone was rude, they just seemed sort of indifferent. I wouldn't go back unless the service improved greatly.

The website sells you on a delightful experience. No wait which is great but it is a tight squeeze to your table and you are smacked in the face by the heat. Ceiling fans do little to cool the area. The water is given with no ice so you must drink it quickly in order to get cooled off. I'm sorry the mojitos are not the best very little alcohol and too much mints, limes. The one thing that I can say was decent was the food but again not the greatest when you have to add salt to Cuban food that not Cuban food. I took my girlfriend as a surprise after her classes and I was so sadly let down! Question? Where is the music. They get you with the rolling of the cigars and band in the front of the place but you are then let down!

Gotta admit crowded but what a nice place to enjoy, live music. Service? I haven't got a better service, in that kind of crowded restaurant in my 45 years. To be that crowded, it was excellent, everything on time, nothing missed or forgotten. Can't say anything. Goooood!

You gotta take your time to enjoy Azucar. Best place to go with friends, enjoy drinks and food, the service was very good, went there a few times, the food came out once or twice problably a little delayed, but common sense, it was packed! And the atmosphere was great, live music, everybody enjoying, parties all over, I'd say that I walked out really happy and with my batteries full charged. What else can I say, AZUCAR!

Living in the neighborhood, I had to try this new addition and the food did not disappoint! However, they need to take a lesson in service as the restaurant was far from busy and yet, we had to wait forever for the waiter to appear - then only briefly he took our order never to be seen again. Had to rely on the bus boys for everything - including the dessert menu! I was entertaining guests from Europe and even they complained about it being unpleasant... suggest management realize that this is NYC and you can have the best food - but service is just as important...

What a fun place! My boyfriend and I went with another a couple and had such a great time. The appetizers were excellent and the atmosphere is amazing. Love that guy rolling cigars! The entrees were also impressive--mixed seafood paella and the dessert were creative as well. The only con is sometimes the music is way too loud. Half of the night we couldn't have dinner conversation. Otherwise, a perfect addition to the neighborhood!
