The best and most authentic cuban food

I just visited this restaurant and I can say that is the best and most authentic Cuban food you can have in Manhattan. I'm Cuban and I very well know what taste like real Cuban food, and what can be Spanish food with the Cuban label. This place is great, nice atmosphere, the guy at the door with the cigars make you think like if you were in Cuba. The drinks are awesome and the service is great. I had Daily, a Cuban girl, great waitress. I can't wait to bring my friends back and show them this gem. I'm very proud that Guantanamera can give to NYC our Cuban real flavor.

    Step aside Fidel

This is a west side gem. We went on a Friday night and were not disappointed with anything. The service was prompt, friendly and good looking. The food was scrumptious and the perfect portion; we did not leave hungry. At nine the Cuban band started and enjoyment ensued.

    Nice at the bar

We just stopped in at the bar for a quick drink and light snack one late afternoon and found the atmosphere, service and food all quite lovely. My partner had the sangria and thought it very nice. And the cigar upon leaving (even though neither of us smoke) was quite a pleasant touch...something memorable. I would go back.

    Great Restaurant

What a great place, delicious food, potent drinks, & the service was top-notch. Plus, you get a fine hand- rolled cigar on the way out. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for good cuban fun. I can't wait to go back.

Subpar food, but very sweet service

I have to say, I was pretty shocked as to how mediocre the food was here (considering we actually waited 10 minutes for a table). The lobster in both our dishes was literally inedible -- and we're not exactly lobster experts or snobs. We ended up getting comped for one main dish. The food was otherwise incredibly bland. The service did happen to very sweet and attentive; I actually felt bad that the food was so bland and disappointing. The live music is fun; although definitely be prepared because it is loud. Sangria was decent as well.

Same owner, second name change in 5 yrs?

Whats up with that? ?They just changed the name from Azucar to Guantanamera. Before it was Azucar it was an Italian restaurant by the same owner. Wonder what's going on? Anyway, good mojitos. loud live band, decent food. Poor service. Hopefully the new name will bring better service.

Cute spot, average food good for groups

We had a Saturday night reservation for a group of 6 for 9am. We had to wait about 1/2 hour for a table. If you dont hound the hostess for your table, it will be given to someone else. The place was packed and the house band pumping. The drinks were good, the atmosphere was nice although we had to shout to hear each other. We ordered about 10 appetizers for the group, none was memorable but it was not bad. We each had an entree also. Mine was chicken, my husband had steak which was pretty good. My chicken was only flavored by the accompanied vegetables. No one has dessert since the one we wanted - chocolate cake - was not avaliable. The drinks were good, most of us had flavored mojitos some had sangria. All in all it wasnt bad but not good. There are alot of spanish restaurants (not necessarily Cuban) who serve very similar food in price and quality. It was not expensive either, coming to about 110 per couple. But I dont think I would come here again.
