    Overrated

Just because a lot of people go there doesn't mean it's good. Service was shoddy, the pizza itself was nothing special and the dessert (a lump of brown ice they insist on calling cassata) was plain subpar. I lived in Italy for a long time so I know what good pizza should taste like. There are plenty of decent pizza joints in NYC, try them out. Or just follow the sheep and go to Grimaldi's. Shame, such poor value for such a great location.

    Love it!

My husband and I were visiting NY and were told that we HAD to try Grimaldi's. We had an great experience. We went on a Thursday night and the line was not very long at all. Mr. Grimaldi was a very friendly guy and gave us great tips on the very best place to get great pictures of the NY skyline. I enjoyed everything about the evening. The pizza was the best that I've ever had. It's a must when in NY.

    A New York Institution

It's supposed to be the original nyc pizza. There are some disagreements about that title, but we think its amazing, not as an everyday eatery but a special place to go every once is a while. You can tell by the line out the door every night that its a hopping place. However, I have to say, each time we go we get in and out really quickly. I think it might have to do with the odd number, 3, which has always been the number in our party each time we went. It got us boosted to the front of the line several times when the line is almost at the end of the block. The service is so-so as they are busy non-stop. The atmosphere is loud, but enjoyable. Cramped but still comfortable. Maybe not for people out of town considering that non-new yorkers aren't used to breaking bread next to people they don't know.

    Worth a Stop

Stopped by here on a May afternoon, no line, got seated right away. Was told it was a must for authentic NY pizza. The atmosphere was pleasant, the food good, service quick. I was glad we stopped in. Would I go back? I am planning a second trip to NY this spring and am not planning to, not because it wasn't good, but because it wasn't exceptional, and there are way too many places in NY to try out without going to the same place every trip. I plan to try John's in Time Square this time to see how it compares. Grimaldi's is worth the trip if you are a tourist and are planning to walk to Brooklyn Bridge and want something good to eat. You will enjoy it. If you're not planning to walk the bridge or go to Brooklyn, I wouldn't bother planning to eat there. One other thing. They only have 1 bathroom, with 1 toilet. The day we were there it wasn't very busy, but there was a constant line.

    Not worth it

Not worth it if you are coming over the bridge for this pizza..stay on the other side, better pizza there. Not worth it even if you are in DUMBO and the line is long. Maybe worth it if you happen to be in DUMBO and there is no line and you just want some mediocre pizza.

    Almost worth the hype

The wait for this place can get pretty intense..but the pizza is outstanding. sometimes the pizzas come out burned and the staff is very brusque and in a hurry all the time (understandly). thus, i prefer a place that shows a little more TLC when preparing the pizza and isnt about slapping it down on the table as fast as possible. but the pizza is def worth a stop if u are in the dumbo area. the service and atmosphere isnt chic, but its brooklyn pizza and everyone around u is enjoying their pies which is all u need. also, its a great value
