I've been mourning the loss of the Totonno's at 26th Street and Second Avenue, their mediocre service notwithstanding. I just had a pizza at this new Grimaldi's and though IMO the home-made tomato sauce and crust don't quite measure up to Totonno's, Grimaldi's does score extra points for value compared to T's. I wish this branch were a little larger, however, and hope that they will be able to expand into the space behind now occupied by some kind of gift boutique. Until that happens, however, I would suggest ordering their pizzas for takeout.

Having Grimaldi's here in Manhattan is so wonderful - no schlep to Brooklyn! And so far...no line on Monday night when I went with my wife. Pizza was the same great pie; had a large with roasted red peppers, sausage, and basil. No liquor license yet, should be soon they said. Was not crowded (but Monday nights are slow most places) and the pie was made quickly (all pies made to order, none of this reheating of slices nonsense). Great service, and what a great pizza. Absolutely perfect crust - thin, crunchy yet soft and chewy inside - yum! Ingredients fresh and superb, no dripping oil or other terrible things you find so often in pizza places. We'll be back, and I'm telling all my friends to go there before everyone else discovers it and the line is out the door!

Wait, it's Grimaldi's, but it's convenient to get to? And there isn't a huge hourlong wait? And it's still amazing? And it's not super-expensive? That's a whole bunch of wins. Grimaldi's in the Limelight on 20th and 6th was awesome--as good as top-shelf pizza can get. Savored every bite of the toothsome, perfectly cooked pie I shared with my wife. It's going to be tough when people start to discover they don't have to schlep to Dumbo anymore!
